Title: James Brooker & Sarah Taylor
Post by: Lilster on Saturday 21 April 07 02:00 BST (UK)
Hi all,
I am searching for any info on James Brooker and Sarah Taylor.  The last piece of information I have on them is that their last child was born in Worth in 1826 (Worth Parish Church).  Both are believed to have been born circa 1780. They were married 29th Oct, 1801, Worth Parish Church.  They had many children -
26th Feb 1803 Mary Ann
15th Apr 1805 James
19th Apr 1808 Mark
25th Dec 1810 Sarah
1814 Ann
1817 Philadelphia
1820 Harriot
1823 Milley
1826 Elizabeth

All children were christened at Worth Parish Church, according to online information.

Thanks for any help,
Lilster

Hi
Having looked at the 1841 image I think the surname of James and Ann is actually Tulett - quite a common Sussex name in this area.    Did their daughter Ann marry a James Tulett?   Have you got marriage details for any of the children that might indicate an occupation for James and when he died?
There are a lot of James Brookers in the Worth area so looking for his death might cause problems!
In 1851 there is a Sarah Brooker age 77 born Balcombe living as mother in law to Mary Brooker, Head of household, but without knowing the spouses of their children that is not proveable and the age is rather out even allowing for the fact that ages were usually rounded down to the nearest 5 in 1841.   HO107 1641 F399 in case it is helpful.

Their son Mark Brooker - to my knowledge Mark aged 18 was shipped to Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) for theft and arrived 1826, He later married Matilda Martha Simmons in Launceston 1837 and they had 6 or 7 children.

Interest in if anyone knows what happened to Mark Brooker, did he leave Australia, when was his death?
Any clues?

Cheers,

Fran

I believe there are about 14 to 15 births recorded to Mark Brooker and Matilda Simmons, Matilda was involved with other men so cannot really say if all were Mark's! Matilda went on to have several other children very busy! She died aged 60yrs in 1881

Hi
IGI Batch # 7700422, records parents of James Brooker as Thos. & Eliz.  Other source: 1841 UK census James, aged 60, an agricultural labourer, wife Sarah, and Mary Taylor aged 85, living in East Grinstead, Worth Sussex. Also present are married daughter Ann Tulett aged 20 and her husband James, but transcribed as Suletan. Daughter Elizabeth Brooker aged 15 also recorded.

I have 9 children for James and Sarah Brooker. They are: Mary Ann 1803, James 1805, Mark 1808, Sarah 1810, Ann 1814, Philadelphia 1817, Harriot 1820, Milley 1823 and Elizabeth 1826.  Is that about right?
regards, palmeri
