Title: 1841 census records of soldiers overseas
Post by: neilelliott21 on Thursday 19 April 07 13:22 BST (UK)
Hi. I am trying to find out if records were kept of soldiers who were serving overseas during the 1841 census. My ancestor was located at Woolwich, but was serving at Nova Scotia or the West Indies at the time of the 41 census. His wife and child are not listed on the 41 census anywhere either.

Please help

Neil

He wouldnt appear in a UK Census if he wasnt in the country somewhere on the 'night' of the census.

Do you have other evidence that his family were here ?

Hi. I know that the family were there in 1838 (military birth cert), and my ancestors discharge papers show he was stationed at Woolwich from 1828-1850. So i assume his wife and child were near by. I have check Eng and Scotland census with no luck.

Thank you
