Title: Re: Parish records High Wycombe
Post by: GeoffGoddard on Thursday 12 April 07 13:07 BST (UK)
Hi
Could anyone help find any baptism records, buriel records for the Goddard family who lived in High Wycombe between 1814 and 1836.  I know of a George William Goddard born 1814 but can find no baptism and his sister Elizabeth Ann born 1816.

Regards Geoff Goddard

Hi Francis
Thanks for your help - the record for Elizabeth sounds like the information I have but I have her birth as 1816! Do you know if there are any MI's for All Saints?
Thanks again Geoff

I nipped into the RO today and checked on the Bucks FHS database and saw Elizabeth baptism in 1816 to William and Fanny. There were no burials on the FHS database which means nothing really as they only claim to have all the marriages to 1837. But there is a transcribed index list of all the burials at All Saints. (I was looking for someone else actually. So didn't check the Goddards) I will have a look when I go on Tuesday.

Hi Jo

Thanks for the help - George is the major brickwall in my family tree. I am trying to ind anything that will connect him to William and Fanny. He is listed in all the census returns as being born in High Wycombe 1814 and I know, from marriage certificate, that is father was a William but I have no real proof that he is linked to the family of William, Fanny, John and Elizabeth.  Incidently both John and George ended up in Wednesbury and both died there. William and Fanny were maried in Windsor in 1807.
Any help much appreciated
Regards Geoff

Hi again.

No luck I'm afraid for any births for George Goddard. There were a couple of burials in HW but they were early 20c and not George.

Hi Geoff,

Being as you are banging you head against that brickwall have you thought of asking the Buckinghamshire FHS for help? You never know, you may just find George somewhere else in the county :-\

There is a small fee I know but I found it well worth having searches done for my Hope family :D

Good Luck,

I asked the FHS today while they were there and they could not find a George Goddard in the time frame I'm afraid anywhere in Bucks. Mind you they do not boast of having all the baptisms for the whole County.

As an after thought, I can check the non conformists next time I have a reader booked.

Thanks for the assistance with the FHS it a real shame he's not there and odd that a family will baptise two children but not the middle one. Still this one of the reasons why we investigate our family histories - to solve mysteries - annoying at the time though.

I had a look at all the non conformists today for all of High Wycombe and Chepping Wycombe. I also checked West Wycombe but with no luck.

This is often the case with the Bucks Berks border being so close. I wonder if George was born in Eton before the family moved to Wycombe.

Thanks again for your efforts. Unfortunately all I have about George William Goddard is his census results from 1851 till 1871 all saying High Wycombe and I have hi marriage certificates and death certificate which only point to a birth of about 1814.  I am hoping to link him to John Goddard born Windsor and Elizabeth born High Wycombe 1816.

I was thinking on the lines of his parents moving to HW when he was very young. They could have said we had you all in Wycombe. Just a thought.
