MAJOR, looking for possible relatives of 2 people.
Annie Maud Helen Major (b 24/4/1870) married Charles MARTIN on 26/4/1903 and Henry (Harry) Percy Major who married Sarah Ann COOK on 13/8/1905. My ggmother (Maria Florence Mary) was elder sister to the Majors and until recently it had been thought she was an only child. The Majors were all born in Deptford but did spend some time at Clee St Margaret, Shropshire as their mother came from there - Annie & Harry were there for the 1881 census.
In 1891 & 1901 Annie was "Housemaid" & "On own Means" & Harry was a "Grocers assistant".
Does this make any sense to anybody?

Ian - got this info & previous census entries but thanks for reply. It was from 1903/1905 onwards that I was interested to see if there were descendants around.
As I said until recently this bit of the family was unknown to us as the story was that the mother Maria had died ?in childbirth? as Maria FM was born Deptford, was christened in Clee & was at school there for a time (we have a sampler stitched by her in July 1880 age 12).

Well done for finding this old post!
I know little of Annie as such but have birth & marriage certs & census entries. 1881 she was living with her gmother at Clee, 1891 she was in service (housemaid) with her mother, 1901 she was living on her own means in Battersea.
I have found & corresponded with the descendants of her brother Henry (Harry) Percy Major.
Any information on another brother Wm Major b 1872 would be useful.

Yes thats him & his brother as witness. Many thanks for this.
Did find him in 1891 as asst pawnbroker living "over the shop" as it were in Bethnal Green Road & remarkably, according to StreetView, the address is still a pawnbrokers.

Harry Wilson MAJOR baptised St Olave Stoke Newington 21 Jun 1903 (born 20 Feb 1903) son of William and Frances of 22 Vale Road, Gun Lane pawnbroker's manager
William Harry MAJOR baptised St Stephen, Canonbury Road, Islington 8 Dec 1901 (born 21 Aug) son of William and Frances of 72 Hilton Road pawnbroker's manager.
What an interesting line of enquiry, I'm sure they would have had some tales to tell ;D
