Can anyone help me to date the attached family group photo?
This photo is officially unidentified, but there is a strong possibility that it is my 4x great grandparents and their 11 adult children. A date would help! I think it would be before 1899.
Perhaps taken for a special anniversary or other occasion if all the children were together, as some lived far away. It was most likely a studio in Gateshead or Newcastle.
Thanks very much

Hi Rebecca,
Even without your date of 1889 I would have suggested a date line of between 1882 and 1889. As there is no evidence of a kick up at the shoulder (which by the way would have been padded) it would have to be prior to 1889 when kick ups started to come in. In 1882 cuff's on sleeves started to go above the wrist and by the end of the decade they were about mid way betwix wrist and elbow. All the women have hairstyles that leave the ears exposed and at least one has her hair set high in a bun that is set on top of her head. This style started to come in about 1884.

Thank you so much for the swift and informative reply.
What a coincidence that your surname interests are in East London - the picture is hopefully of Richard Dellow and his wife Rhoda who married In Shoreditch in 1841 - he was a basketmaker who moved his family up to Gateshead in the 1850s. I think there is a Dellow Street in east London that is meant to have a family connection.
Thanks again
