My Dad's much older sister left the UK for Australia some time after 1930 and married a sheep farmer, came to visit once when I was a child, think she was in NSW but have no idea where to find any record of her .....she was Dorothy Lilian Bell born 1908, married a Fred?? Could SKS point me in the right direction? TIA

Hi
You can search the NSW bdm website, there should be a marriage if she married in NSW otherwise you will need to search other states. Quite a few people on here have access to CD's for the other states.

Hi
No marriage in South Australian to 1937. Have checked SA Marriages
Nothing on the reverse marriage website in Western Australia to 1942
http://www.openwindows.com/marriage/search.htm
Quite a few Dorothy Bells on the Passenger Index on
http://www.naa.gov.au/
Click on Records Search on left of page, Log in as Guest and then Passenger Index.

It is unlikely that she is still living and it is entirely up to you, but if her parents' names were available, it may help in doing a death search and we could work back from any info found that way.
Just thinking, that's all. Bit hard with not much to go on.
[May be sensitivities in regard to your father.]

Thanks you guys I'm not having much luck with her so far,
I am pretty sure she is not living, but my Dad isn't either so no worries re sensitivity.
I have no idea how to do a death search because I don't have her married name - but Fathers name was Sydney Richard Sansom Bell, Mothers name was Margaret Cole, does that get me anywhere

sorry hit the send button too early......anyway if that does get me anywhere would love to be sent in the right direction......and thanks again all

Hi Melanie,
It is a little help.It shows us that no-one named Dorothy with parents by that name is registered as dying in NSW.
Cazay has posted that search site to you.
Not all states have searchable bmd's, but there might be someone who can look in Victoria for you., even though a marriage search was done there already by cando----
People don't always die where they are married.

Melanie there is a link to the Victorian BDM site listed in Victorian Genealogy thread at the top of this board. The bdm's are free to search to pay to view.
I haven't searched for a marriage in Victoria for you - marriages are online to 1942 - from memory :-[
Perhaps sks could look in Queensland for you.
Melanie do you remember approx when she visited the UK and do you know of any chn names?
Cheers

Hi cando,
Sorry, think I was guilty of a scan instead of a read there!

Oh Sue - think nothing of it. ;D
I really wanted to bring the BDM site to Melanie's attention -so she can have a search - which I am sure she will do. The url is too long to link here ;D
I have also had a quick look at all the Dorothy Lilian's on the Ryerson Index - you never know we may have found a death notice for a Dorothy Lilian b. 1908. No luck there with those that had the age at date of death.
