Hi All,
I'm after information on a maternal gg grandfather and his parents/family.
Gg grandfather
Frederick James Palmer
b. 27/12/1826 Tilehurst, Berks.
His father was Richard and his was mother Sophia (nee Drew). Richard was a butcher.
Frederick JP's known siblings:
Richard Drew Palmer b. 7/2/1819
Elizabeth Sophia b. 1820
Joseph George b. 1829
Sarah Emma b. 1832
All born Tilehurst, Berks.
I'd appreciate a lookup in the 1841 and 1851 censuses. I'm most interested in the ages and birthplaces of Fred JP's parents.
Aside:
Frederick married at the start of the 1850s but I have no details. He had emigrated to Sydney, Australia by the mid 1850's, probably after the death of his wife.
Any help greatly appreciated, thanks in advance, Frank.

Hi Frank,
1841 is really faded
In 1851 they seem to be scattered - visiting etc

Free BMD has a marriage for a Frederick James Palmer, December quarter 1851 Shoreditch - amongst possible brides, Eliza Keith.
There are a couple of possible deaths for Elizabeth on free BMD
There are also possible deaths for Richard and Sophia on Free BMD

apologies for keep adding to this - especially when I can't help with the parents you are interested in. Howeve as this is your extended family I do hope you don't mind!!
I was a bit unsure about the Sarah E Palmer above born Theale. Looking at 1861 there is a Sarah E Hobbs b abt 1834 Theale, married to Thomas.
They are living in Whitechapel, Middlesex and he is a milliner. Amongst their employees is a servant Emily Keith 16 yrs. (Frederick married a Keith). So I have checked Free BMD and there is a marriage for Thomas and Sarah Emma Palmer in Shoreditch, December quarter 1858.
That's the lot- off visiting now! If you need any explanations or other info - please post.
best wishes - and sorry if I have overloaded you or repeated info you have!!

Hi again,
woke up this morning and thought I'll have one last go and here is a strong contender!!
feint copy - indexed as 'Pulman' but looks like Palmer
1841 HO107/25/23
Tilehurst
Richard Palmer 38 yrs butcher
Elizabeth 20 yrs
Emma 9 yrs
Stanton ? male 15 yrs
Joseph 12 yrs
all born in county
so here is Richard snr - alive in 1841 (if it is him). Sarah must be known as Emma - but who is the 'Stanton'. Relationships were not given in 1841 so he could be anyone. Additionally, ages of adults were rounded down to the nearest 5 yrs.
Family Search has a Richard Palmer baptised in Tilehurst 1798 - which is out with this age here but would be worth checking the parish records for.

Hello Frankl
Does this help?
Burials Theale Holy Trinity
Sophia Palmer age 44 March 8 1839
Richard Palmer age 48 Aug 20 1847
This Richard is probably the one christened in Tilehurst Jan 21 1798 son of Richard and Amy. There are no marriages for either Richard in Theale or Tilehurst but there are baptisms for children of both in Tilehurst, and one of Richard and Sophia in Theale if you are interested.

Hello, Vicwinann,
Thanks very much for your information, which squares very well with my present thinking and with the census information I've just received.
I'd be very interested in the baptisms.
Once again, thaks for the info and interest.
Cheers, Frank.

Hi Frankl,
as you requested in pm (thought I would post here in case anyone else has an interest)
I am assuming/hoping that this is Joseph- 'Theale' and 'butcher'
1861 RG9; Piece: 252; Folio: 1; Page: 2
Gutton terrace Bethnal Green (page is ripped near the address so think that's it)
Joseph Palmer head 31 yrs butcher b Berks Theale
Ann wife 22 yrs b Herts Park St
Joseph R son 2 months b Mddlesex Bethnal Green
can't find Amy (grandmother) in 1841; Richard and family in 1861 (wonder if they emigrated) Joseph after 1861 but of course there may be more mispellings.
best wishes
