I would like to see a photograph of the Sharman Arms public house at 218 Halliwell Road, Halliwell, Bolton and a close-up of the pub's sign. If anyone who reads this could oblige and send it to me at *, I would be most grateful.
Thank you.
Robin Sharman,
Nottinghamshire.

Hi Robin, have you tried the Bolton Evening News web site?? They have a fantastic 'Looking Back' section of old photos. You can also e-mail them with a request for a photo. There's also the museum which have a brilliant collection of old photos. Also, try thisisbolton.com they will do searches for you for old photos
Good luck

Hi Migky
I googled Sharman Arms and it came up with a guide to pubs and Sharman Arms was one of them. It appeared to be a popular place.
Are you from Bolton?? I'm an ex Boltonian from way back ;D

Thanks for this folks. The Sharman Arms must be a homage to the defunct brewery. I'd still like to see photos of the pub and its sign if anyone with a digital camera happens to be in the area.

Dear Robin
I'll head over to Halliwell Rd (hopefully this weekend) and take a picture for you.
Best wishes

Thank you so much for the photos. I'm really grateful. I had hoped that the sign would be a coat of arms, but never mind, eh? If ever I get up that way, I'll go to see it for myself.

Hi Robin,
I have some photos of pubs owned by the Sharman brewery but I suspect I would be in breach of copyright to send them.
There is a full set of photos of the pubs (and their valuation) owned by the brewery in the Walker archive in Liverpool - dating from when the brewery was sold.
I also have a photo of the brewery itself (only in the background) courtesy of the Halliwell Local History Society.
The brewery was founded by my g.grandfather, who started life mining aged 8 in Derbyshire and moved to Bolton to make his fortune (!!!). He died a rich man.
