HIya
I wonder if anyone in Cleethorpes knows if the Cliff Hotel is still standing.
It belonged to GG Grandparents in 1880's
And does anyone know any history of the NUTTALLS or NUTTELLS in Cleethorpes around this time
Thanks for your time
Karen
I have a photograph but dont know how to post it
I found a picture by typing in Cliff Hotel Cleethorpes on Google
Thanks

The 1933 Directory gives the address of the hotel as 1 Sea View St, Cleethorpes.
In that Directory was-
NUTTELL Alfd, Fried fish dealer, 12 Neptune St.

I live very close to this area and do know the Cliff Hotel was knocked down a few tears ago & is now luxury apartments. It was a nightclub previously under many different names, last two being J.Ds & before that Deans, previously Talk Of The Town.... i went to school with a family of Nuttals in the 70s, they owned donkeys that could be hired to ride on the beach. Hope this helps?

thanks for that
sad news but very helpful

Hi Karen,
Was searching for information concerning the Cliff Hotel, Cleethorpes, when I came across your post. I realise it was written in 2007, but was fascinated to read that John Nuttell was your g.g. grandfather. I am also a direct relation to the Nuttells' and in fact he is my g.g. grandfather too. have been researching on Ancestry for some time and have a reasonably comprehensive Nuttall/Nuttell family tree, and would be interested to find out exactly where you appear on the tree.
I've no idea if this message will reach you- only signed up today to reply to your post!

Hi Karen,
Received your message, but unfortunately RootsChat will not allow me to reply- some sort of technical problem possibly, so I'm posting from the original page. I have found your g.g grandmother on my tree, along with her sister May Nuttell? My g.g. grandmother was Clara Nuttall, who with John Freer had my grandfather John Freer Nuttall in 1902. Will be happy to give further details if you would like to send your e-mail address. For some reason I am told that an 'error has occured,' so I'm not able to reply privately on the forum.
Best Wishes, Mike

I think you should now be able to reply. You need to have made 2 (some say 3) posts to reply to a PM.

Thanks geoff, you're absolutely right, although I'm not sure I would have worked that one out. The message I got said 'Your inbox may be full' when I'd never received a message and only joined yesterday!

Hello -
I'm new to Rootschat, and have just found this thread.
I'm descended from Elizabeth Nuttell, christened 11 Dec 1815 Grimsby, who married Frederick Campbell on 5 Jan 1836 in Sculcoates. They are 3xgreat grandparents. Elizabeth Nuttell's parents were Benjamin and Sarah Nuttell (nee Mumby). Their first child (of 11) was Benjamin James Nuttell born 1801 Grimsby.
Are we all researching the same family?

Hi Carmella,
We're certainly researching the same family. My great grandparents x4 were also Benjamin Nuttell and Sarah Mumby. I have quite an extensive Nuttell/Nuttall family tree, and I can see that Elizabeth Nuttell and Frederick Campbell had two children, Sarah and Ben. If you have a tree on Ancestry perhaps we can compare notes!
Regards,
Mike

Hi,
I'm willing to share but haven't used Ancestry. However I can probably scan our Nuttell/Campbell tree via email if you would like it that way.
We're particularly interested in Elizabeth and her (twin?) sister Susanna. We've found 2 other sets of twins and a set of triplets in Nuttell/ Campbell lines!

Hello,
I'm posting this message as I'd like to make contact with Karen who started this thread about the Cliff Hotel, Cleethorpes.
Benjamin Nuttell born 11 April 1781 is my 4x Great Grandfather so descended from the Nuttells of Grimsby/Cleethorpes but a bit further back.
I can PM now as I have over 3 posts!

Hi Nichola,
Do you have an Eli Pike in your family? married around Sept 1869? I ask because I think it was you who asked the question on a post in December 2008, if it is you are you related to him as I think he is my Great Great Grandfather, he was married to Mary Jane? and he was a chimney sweep and she was a refreshment stall keeper. best regards, Jason Taylor 07941 594703

Can you tell me where they are from as I have hundreds of Pikes........
Thanks
-
Hi Nichola,
They are from Taunton, Honiton, Colney, and Galhampton in Somerset
Best regards,
jason
-
No sorry He's not one of mine I check no "ELI's" & mine are Wiltshire
Sorry
-
Thanks for looking, was it you who posted a reply to Steve Pike in December 2008?
-
Don't know cant find the post
-
Nichola, Thank you for looking, Your topic read " Eli PIKE married Sept 1869" and you had a response from johnP-bedford, my mother says that part of my fathers "Pike" family lived near Shepton Mallet and the other part of Pike lived in Taunton which is about 20 miles away from Wiltshire. Do you have a Richard Pike from about 1817?
Thank you
Jason

Hello,
I have just come across your post about the Cliff Hotel. I was wondering if you have any information specifically about the hotel or when the Nuttals bought it etc. I am a descendant of Sophia Chapman, an owner of the hotel from the 1850s to the 1860s-70s.
I have some information already from victorian directories but any more would be very much appreciated.
-
Hi,
Just read your post. My 2nd Great Grandfather was John Nuttell (Born 1837.) However, the only information I have regarding his interest in the Cliff Hotel appears in the 1881 census, where this is recorded as his residence, along with his profession of 'Hotel Keeper.' I do have a photograph of the hotel from the 1950's if you're interested, but would suggest that you try to contact RedRed28 who initiated the post, as I believe she has some crockery with the hotel crest on it.
Regards,
Mike
