Hi,
i wonder if someone could help.. I am currently trying to track down a family in the Whitechapel / Stepney area that seems to flit between 2 properties from Birth Certificates I have.
The surname of the family is WIGHTWICK, however, it is possible one of the properties is owned by a family with surname GRAY.
The addresses are:
9, King Edward Street, Whitechapel
26, King Edward Street, Whitechapel
and
5, East Street, Globefields, Stepney
If someone could please look these addresses up for me in the 1851 / 61 census I would be most grateful.

27 King Edward St, Spring Gardens, Ref HO107 1544 page 237 for 1851 is
William Gray, head, 28, general dealer, born NK
Charlotte, wife, 21 born Stepney
Charlotte, dau, 1 born Stepney.
at No 9 there is a family of Miles

There is a second King Edward St
but at No 9 there is family of Montague and Lecil?
and at 25 families Langford and Rowe

There is no reference to an East St Stepney nor Globefields. You may need to look up lost London streets and see if you can find where it was. If you can give me a couple of other street references around it that may help

East Street changed its name some time after 1859 to Moss Street.
East Street was just off Smart Street (which still exists in post code EC2) which itself was off Green Street (now Roman Road).
BTW, what does NK stand for? Not Known?

Not having any luck with East St/Smart St / started with Green St but am now 130 folios through and still nothing.
Found a family of Gray at 43 White Horse Lane Ratcliffe, Stepney
starting with a James Gray - do you want them.
PS am in 1851 at the moment.

There is an East Street in Bethnal Green, possibly near Globe Road
HO 107/1540 Enumeration district 7 folios 192-208 and Enumeration dist 22 folios 642-668
Only one grey William at folio 655
