Born out-of-wedlock in Northamptonshire in 1855, Owen Chester Holliday was apparently left with his grandparents when his mother and her eventual husband, and the children from this marriage, emigrated to New Zealand in about 1870.
Owen married Mary Ann Wheeler in 1876 in Culworth, Northants, and they had two children: William (1878) and James (1880), both born in Leicestershire. None of them appear in the 1901 census. Might they have also emigrated to New Zealand, or perhaps Australia? To pursue this further would welcome help and guidance.

I think Owen Chester Holliday emigrated to Cleveland City, Cuyahoga, Ohio in 1888 and he died in Cleveland in 1902 aged 47 years.

I am still plugging away at the Holliday family tree! I know Owen Chester Holliday was the son of Mary Holliday - born out of wedlock in 1855. Someone has said that Mary subsequently remarried and could have emigrated to New Zealand. I did think she was the Mary Saunders that emigrated in 1859 but having looked at the passenger list for that ship realise that it was nothing to do with my Mary.
Does anyone know who Mary Holliday married? I seem to be drawing a blank with the marriages I have found and don't think any are the correct one. Did they get married in Register Offices in those days? Wonder if Mary was unable to marry in church because she had a child.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi again
The Mary Holiday that I found for you in 1881 must also have emigrated to America as he did. In 1900 they are in Cuyahoga Ohio, with loads of kids ;D
They are both 43 and born in England- oldest son William J 22 and next James 21.Last child to be born in England was Harry 1888-the rest all born Ohio.
She seems to die there in 1928.

Thank you for your messages. It is Owen Chester Holliday's mother I am trying to trace. She married shortly after his birth and I am trying to find out who she married. She may then have emigrated to New Zealand - but I can't look further into this paet of her life without knowing her married surname.

Might be this marriage
John SANDERS of Claydon, Oxfordshire, bachelor, age 20. labourer, father Thomas
Mary HOLLIDAY of Culworth, spinster, age 27, father John a labourer
July 31 1859 in Culworth

I did see this marriage, but no details of age and father's name were shown on the FMD site, and there was no record of the marriage at all on the Family Search site! This certainly looks as if it could be the marriage I am looking for and I shall research further. Many thanks.

Hi Sna.
I tried to look at the Library at Culworth Parish Records for the
baptism of Owen but to no avail as they must still be in the Church.
The Library did not have a copy of the marriage of 1859 either.

That was one of the parishes where Alan had to go to the church to transcribe the marriages.

I see the N.R.O. now hold them.

any thanks seahall for trying to find records. I have actually got a copy of Owen Chester Holliday's birth certificate - which shows Mary as his mother, and as we know no father is named. Haven't done any further research this week, but will try and find something to link Mary to John Sanders.
