Hi Cass

Henry and Susan Cox are listed here where you will find an email contact for the Bowraville cemetery.  The Bellingen Shire Council may be able to help as well.

http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/index.html

(click on Transcription Index at the bottom of the page and then Cemeteries and Burials)

Hope this helps

Hi Cass

How did you go with the websites supplied by Ozybob in his response to your request? If you found any grave references, I may be able to help you a little further, and supply you with some photo's of the graves if you wish?

Bowraville is about 500kms north of Sydney (where I live), however, my parents-in-law live at Bowraville, and I visit them every couple of months. We hope to visit them this April, but nothing is confirmed at this stage. I would be happy to photograph the graves for you if you want, providing I can find them there. I know of one cemetery at Bowraville, and being a small town, it would probably be the only one(?).

Regards

Les

Hi Les
Sorry for the delay in replying, I have just returned from an Easter Break.

I did not have any luck with the site Ozybob suggested, my computor would not "connect" to the site however with Cazay's site I found details of burials at Bowraveille (1937-1945) and listed for 1937 are

COX Henry John  76 yrs Burial July 25 1937   Roman Catholic
Cox Susan           76 yrs Burial September 30 1937 Roman Catholic

The dates and Religion match the data I have located , the only difference being the given name of Henry John's wife , I have Suzannah not Susan.

If you have the time to locate the grave and if there is a headstone I would love a photos, I will send you a private  message with my email address.
I have no idea the size of the Cemetery, I have sent emails to the Council regarding the Cemetery and grave sites  however have received no reply.

Regards

Cass

Received your private message and email address - which I have replied to. The cemetery wasn't too big, about 20 rows or so deep, and found the graves in about the 4th row. Photo's to be sent in the next couple of days. I did a quick check of the NSW BDM's site, and information on their children tallies with graves next to them, so I took their photo's as well. They were the older children. I didn't find the graves of the children who died in infancy.

By the way, I couldn't open up the site Ozybob gave you either. Must be an old site?

Les

Les, all photos and wonderful information have arrived.

I wish to thank Les for the time he has spent researching the Cox family, and
for the wonderful photos he has taken at the Cemetery and the Local Museum. I was hoping to be lucky enough to obtain 1 photo of a headstone, and I have received from Les a total of 30 photos of family members, family homes,  Cemetery and headstone, in addition to family "stories" .

Les , once again my thanks

hi to all cox family researchers.  My grandfather was James Joseph Cox who worked in the post office at Bowraville until 1917, then moved all over the state working in various post offices.  I have an extensive family tree that my uncle, Ken, made and have since collated a huge folio on the life of James (mostly) and some of his brothers and sisters.
I'd be happy to share these and to receive anything you have on the extended family.

hi,  My uncle created a family tree and his information places that henry John Cox was born in 1862 at Smithtown, NSW and died at Bowraville in 1937.  He married Susannah Connelly who had been born in 1863 at County Tyrone and died in 1937 at Bowraville.  Henry John Cox's parents were Henry Cox born in 1829 Holborn , England and died 1878 at Rainbow reach.  He married Mary J keenan who was born circa 1833, Ballimore, Ireland and died 1907 at Kempsey.  Henry's parents were John William Cox born Harrow-on-the Hill, Middlesex, England in 1792 and died in Sydney in 1848.  He married Charlotte Hurdle in 1813 in London England.  Charlotte died in 1841.  John William Cox's father was a John Cox who had married a Anne Williams but I have no details about either of them.

I can't be 100% sure my uncle's research was 100% accurate but I believe that he was very thorough and accept that the details are accurate.

Hi Philip, nice to hear from you.
I remember that I was contacted by I think by a Cox who lived in the Wollongong area,  it must be at least 5 or 6 years, regarding the Cox family. the chap's  father was James Joseph son of Henry John Cox and Suzannah who lived in Bowraville.

The information you have appears to be the same as I have ,only difference is that Henry John's grandfather was named John Williams Cox. Also I have been unable to establish when John Williams Cox wife Charlotte died in London, or when Henry the son of John Williams Cox arrived in Australia. It must have been sometime between 1841 and 1858, John Williams Cox arrived in 1841 and Henry married Mary Jane Keenan in 1858.

Good luck with your search, I have not done much on the Cox family for years, as I came to a lot of dead ends. If you think I can help with anything send me a PM with your email address
Regards
Cass

hi Debbie,

I have a photo of Henry John Cox (at least my father said it was his grand father) who I believe was known as John Cox because his father was henry Cox and I guess using the middle name avoided confusion in the home.  Just checking - the John Cox you asked about married Suzannah Connelly?  I would happily send you a copy.  The children in the photo include my father, Noel, and some of his brothers.  I'd like to swap any information you have and as we are cousins include you and your family in the Cox tree if you are open to that.

I posted in another thread by mistake but here it is again, if anybody can help, please.

Hello, my mother's paternal grandmother was an Emily "Molly" Cox who I suspect may be the same "Mollie" mentioned in this thread.  She married a Plowman from Jerseyville and they had a squad of children, including my grandfather.

For some reason my mother always mentioned Bowraville when she talked about going to visit Molly as a child, so perhaps Molly went back to Bowraville to live after her husband died (?). My mother always referred to Molly as 'Molly Cox' and never Nana Plowman, which is odd. She recalls Molly having cows and watching her milk them. I'd ask her to clarify but she died some years back.

I don't understand why Bowraville was significant to my mother in relation to the Cox family when Molly Cox and her husband and kids resided in Jerseyville.

Another strange thing is my grandfather and Molly lived at Jerseyville but went to Alstonville to have my grandfather then returned to Jerseyville and had the rest of their kids.

If anybody can shed any light on any of this, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks,
Gillian

Hi
I have been researching the Cox family on an off for years, I am related via Alice Ellen COX a daughter of Henry and Mary Jane COX. Alice was a sister of Henry John COX the husband of Suzannah.

The "Molly" who who is buried at Bowraville died 15.4.1977, I have recorded as Mary Cox born Abt 1891 to Henry John and Suzannah.  The headstone records the given name as Mollie, she is buried with her sister  Eileen who died 30.5.1963, however I have her recorded as Veronica Eileen.

I think your "molly" maybe Emily Clara Cox born 1869 to Henry and Mary Ann COX a sister to Alice Ellen and Henry John Cox, I believe Emily Clara Cox married William John Henry Plowman, their first born  Henry Charles Plowman born 1898 in Ballina

hope this helps

Cass

Ps just noticed Emily Clare not Clara.   headstone and death notice record Emily Clare Plowman
