My G Grandfather Frederick Vernon was a docks worker in 1901 I don't suppose he's on the list? The Vernon family also had a history of boiler making with Frederick's father Thomas Vernon coming to live in Cardiff at the end of the 1880s to, I believe, work on the docks building boilers. So any Vernon information would be of interest to me.
Many thanks.

Hi Cardiff,
Is there any chance you could help me please?
I had two branches who worked at the docks - my Great-Grandfather from Ely, Cardiff - THOMAS MAZZEI (1889-1964) - he is a dock labourer on 1920 marriage certificate.
His surname was altered to Mazzie, so he may be under Mazzie or Mazzei.
Also - My Great-Great Grandfather John Mahoney who was a stevedore apparently killed at Cardiff docks by falling down the hold of a ship possibly in 1901 (or just prior).
thanks in advance,
Darin.

I am searching for a Cooms/Coomes Tucker connection. My great grandfather was James Tucker Coomes. His parents were English according to census records. Family legend says his father was the captain of a ship that was lost at sea between 1817 and abt. 1843. James Tucker Coomes was born 1817 in the US of English parents and married 1843. I noticed a George Tucker Coombes and was hopeful of a connection.

Amongst the info of people at Barry Docks, do you also have information of shipping? I am looking for info on a ship called the Aube. It ran aground ¼ mile west of Mouth Mill, east of Hartland Point, at 1am on13th July 1917. Locals stole the cargo of coal out of the ship, the hole in the ship was repaired at low tide, and the ship was refloated on 17th July 1917 and taken to Barry Docks, Cardiff on 24th July 1917 for full repair and placed back into service. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Hi
I was given the book.
All Docks offices had registers with info on employees I wish I had them all. Don't know about Swansea or really much of Cardiff . Just use it to look up for people sometimes they are lucky some times not. I had no family members working in or around the Docks area of Cardiff. they where all miners.
So cannot help you much more.
cheers cardiff ;)

hi cardiff, im looking for any details on my great grandfather. Information I have is very limited as he died when my grandmother was very young. His name was Roland Jenkins, she is not sure if the name William came before or after Roland however. We know he lost his leg from falling down the hold of a ship. Any information you could find would be great! thanks
-
Hi
There are Jenkins but not yours sorry.
Have you got his death certificate? this would help dates his death could have been placed in the newspaper, but like so many deaths health and safty was ignored. What year did he die?

Good Morning,
Do you have anything on your list for either:
Charles Henry Baker, born between 1875 and 1884?
Emil Frederick Zimmerman, known usually as Frederick, born abt 1869 in Germany. He was often a stoker.
Where can these records be located?
Many thanks,
Steedie1978
-
Hi
There is no Zimmermans in this book. There are several Bakers one Charles E Baker are you sure is initials where C H Baker?
This is a poss with first name Charles
Born May21st 1889 entered service Jan 11th 1915, left March 1921-reason Depression in trade.
Job on no.1 and 2 docks grade - Tip cleaner rate of pay 3/10
grade- Tipper rate of pay tonage date of removal Jan 22nd 1915
Tip Cleaner :porter rate of pay 76/- date of removal feb -28th1921 amount 76/-
note under Tip cleaner porter -regraded depression in trade.
At bottom of page-Enlisted Sept 17th 1919
Resumed dutyJune 10th 1919
I believe thoes dates are to do with enlisting in army althought in this case the dates do not make sense?
I have no idea if this is who you are looking for due to the middle initial being different.
Regarding where do you get info from I don't know I was luck to be given this book / Register Its a shipping Book No. 2. I look people up if there are there then thats great.
At least it shows everyone what sort of info is in the book
