Title: Collinbourne Ducis Families-Ponting
Post by: Ianp on Thursday 29 March 07 15:23 BST (UK)
My Great Grandfather is Henry Ponting born 1823. He and his wife Anne Collard lived in Collingbourne Ducis for quite a few years. Nine of his eleven children were born there. There is an association with the Marquis of Ailesbury that dates back to his Grandmother Susannah Pontin. I would appreciate ant information from this families time in Collingbourne Ducis, Burbage, Marlborough and Preshute.

There are no references to any Pontings or Collards for Baptisms and Burials in the Parish Registers for Collingbourne Ducis pre-1837.  I'm having a plough through "Colingbourne Ducis Famiies in the 19th century" and "Collingbourne Remembered" and will post anything if I find anything, if you see what I mean?

Do you need census info for them in Collingbourne Ducis in 1851 and 1861?

I'm butting in here, please forgive, but if you run into anything at all for Giles WILLIS in these sources, while you're at it, please let me know.  He may have been an ag lab, printer or farm bailiff, anything up to the 1850s but not more recent.  Ta.

I would appreciate any information. I have located them in the 1851 and 1861 censii. Thanks for your help.

There's no mention of Henry Ponting in the 1845 Tithe Map for Collingbourne Ducis.  Sorry - thiS suggests that the Pontings moved to CD after 1845, and left soon after 1861.

On Giles Willis, there's no reference to any Willis's in pre-1837 CD baptisms and burials.  Can't find any trace either on available tithe maps for the 1840s.

That would make sense as Henry Ponting's children born in CD were from the years 1847-1866.
Thanks

Thank you.  It is actually very helpful to know there are no WILLISes there.  They have been proving very difficult to track!
