Having received assistance and read help other's have received I am hoping for further assistance on this section of my tree.
It has been stagnant for nearly 18 months, and would really love a break or even better..... Bump into someone searching the same tree.
My section of tree for Archibald finishes in Middlesbrough after moving in 1850s.
I have traced back to Andrew Archibald and Margaret Forrester (married 1776) with a child (one of five) Charles Archibald (b 1785 cameron, fife, scotland. Parents as Andrew archibald and margaret foster)marrying Betsey Borland. I am struggling to get further back at present. I believe Andrew's father was also called Andrew and I estimate birth around 1750.
I have a marriage 12th May 1776 - Kinross, Scotland
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=ancestorsearchresults.asp
I have a marriage 10th May 1776 - Burntisland, Fife, Scotland
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=ancestorsearchresults.asp
For Margaret I have references to Forrester, Forester, Foster and Forster as I look into it, and am aware that marriages in scotland could be logged up to three times (the marriage and homes for bride and groom).

Hi Roj47
Have you thought to look at the OPR image for the Kinross marriage, an actual extract ( I haven't checked on SP whether the Burntisland entry is supported by an actual entry - the IGI one is submitted). You might be fortunate and find details of at least fathers' names on the entry on the Register.
Following their marriage, the first born child showing on the OPRs looks to be a William in 1777 and then a John in 1779. There is a birth of an Andrew to a William father in Fife (also other entries to fathers Andrew or John, all in Fife, in the period you are looking at):
02/02/1755 ARCHIBALD ANDREW Parents: WILLIAM ARCHIBALD/ISABELL PATERSON FR181 M Scoonie (Fife) /FIFE 456/ 0010 0239
Hard to say without additional info to corroborate the entries. I also can't see any girls on IGI that would help with supporting entries for mother's name.
Regards.

Many thanks for a fast reply, and will look into the names you provide. Will take some confirming, but certainly further forward than anytime in 18 months :)
Around 18 months ago I purchased marriage details, but was unable to find further details. I was advised that it could be a bann (?), which would not be an official document (?).
I have charles confirmed -

Hi Roj47
The links you are showing for familysearch/IGI are not working. I think you need to type in the search results on to your post here (from memory, the IGI search results don't transfer over when you copy and paste the search results URL).

Hi Roj47
I have to admit defeat on your Andrew b. c. 1750s at this stage. I can see an Ancestral file for the possible family, Andrew with father Andrew, that I think you are referring to on family search.
The problem I have with that entry is that with the OPR entries for the five sons that show to Andrew and Margaret, following their marriage in 1776, there is no sign of a son Andrew and there doesn't seem many gaps in the early years following their marriage:
William b. 1777
John b. 1779
David b. 1782
Charles b. 1785
Robert b. 1787
It is hard in this period as records become much thinner on the ground. Can I ask, have you looked at the OPR entries for the banns/marriage on SP (the Burntisland on IGI is backed up by an actual OPR entry) to see whether they contain any useful info?
Regards.

Many thanks for looking..... :) Driven me mad for months lol...
I have the Bann and marriage details, but they do not shed any light on parents.
In desperation I tried the 1841 census on the hope of a relative living to 90+, but surprise..... nope :)
Will get a lucky break no doubt........ :)

Hiya
I have Andrew and Margaret's son John's death for you (b1779)- he was a soldier and moved to Orkney, dying 20th March 1859 in Stromness, Orkney (he was married to Hannah Murdoch, of Fife) - the bad news for you is that Johnn's daughter Christiana registered John's mother's name as Margaret Folster!! Sorry yet another one for the melting pot! Dad Andrew said to have been a blacksmith, both deceased. Thinking of Orcadian accents it could have been Forster or Forrester she was saying to the registrar - she could not write or spell herself so would only have the spoken word to go by.
Cheers, Rhoda
