Hi,
Would someone be able to look for a couple of Holton marriages for me. My g/g/father Percy Holton married in Wellington 1902. At least 2 brothers & 1 sister also went to NZ. Around 1900-1910?
Beatrice Maud J Holton b 1886
William Francis James Holton b 1883
Bernard George Holton b 1877
possibly - Edith H T Holton b 1881
Cheers

In Australia! In 1905 he is in NZ at " :DWaitangi :D", Boulcott Street, Wellington. In 1949 - Bernard George Holton, :D“Waitangi” :D, Bride Street, Wynnum , Queensland
-
I was checking Papers past when your post came through. Well done! I wonder what "Waitangi" was?? A pub?
-
I have discovered that Waitangi in Boulcott Street was a boarding house. (There was a murder there in 1924, good ole Papers Past)

Quick look at some aus records do show a BERNARD GEORGE HOLTON in australia
so you'd be best to start a thread on that board as well, they will know best where to find some more records

Hello DebNZ,
There is a Bernard George HOLTON listed on the NSW BDM Deaths index (http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?SessionID=30270049&event=births). Year of death 1954. You may have already found him.
There's lots of information (http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/familyHistoryCertificates.htm) on an Australian death certificate, including marital status plus names of children. Transcription agents (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,300394.0.html) are a cheap option.
Annoyingly there is no mention that I can see of him in Trove (http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home)
There is also a Sarah HOLTON listed on the same index, year of death 1933. Do you happen to know the names of Sarah's parents. The index lists this Sarah as the daughter of James and Sarah.

Thanks to you both for your help.
It's not actually my family.... just one that I am looking up for a guy that I don't even know except through Ancestry! I should REALLY be doing my own tree...ha ha ha...addicted I guess! Many many thanks for your help. :)

Hi DebNZ,
Sorry I have just found these questions about Bernard. He was my g/fathers uncle & was the Bernard George who died in Sydney, NSW on 16-8-1954. He and Sarah were divorced & I believe there were no children. They may have divorced in NZ not too long after they married - so there is a good chance she remarried. Bernard & his brothers globe trotted between NZ, Australia, South Africa & England - where they still had a brother & sister. Bernard often travelled as a companion to elderly travelers on ships crossing between Australia & England.
Sorry I have no other info on Sarah. She was not even mentioned on his death certificate.

Thanks so much for your reply - I guess Sarah has gone to ground! No sign of her anywhere.

Hi Scrappyshaz
I am interested in finding Sarah Holton because we have common ancestors. Do you know any more about the times and places where Bernard resided between about 1920 and 1950? I think he and Sarah migrated from NZ to Sydney in the early 1920s and DebNZ found him (above) in Brisbane in 1949. I want to try and find when Bernard and Sarah separated.

Hi syd500,
Sorry don't think I can be any help finding Sarah. As I said she wasn't even mentioned as a spouse on Bernard's death certificate. My father remembers Bernard but was amazed when we found out he was married. He always knew him as a single man. Maybe get a copy of the Sarah Holton's death certificate mentioned in an earlier post or check for divorce records in NSW Archives? We only knew Bernard in Sydney or travelling on ships as a companion back home to England.
Good luck

Hi Scrappyshaz
Thank you for your reply. I will keep looking. I have Bernard's death certicate and cremation records. No divorce record for Bernard and Sarah in NSW or Queensland. No death certificate yet for Sarah because I cannot work out where she died. I have checked the Sarah Holton in the earlier post and she is not a match because the names of her parents do not fit and she seems to have lived around Kempsey in NSW all her life.
