Can anyone help with ancestors of Henry Cock (c 1771?). Henry married Blanch Boyd Nicholls, apparently on 10th March 1798 in Madron, Cornwall. We have hit a brick wall here, and researching from Oz can make things a little difficult sometimes.
Any help would be appreciated. As this is also my first posting, hope I'm doing it right.
Thanks in advance,
Julie :)

Thanks for your reply. Had tried that, but it only gave me what we already had. Will have to keep checking back for updates. You never know! :)

Hi Julie,
Welcome to RootsChat,
Sorry I can't be much help with this but will give you a few things to look at if you have not already discovered them. ;)
The Index does confirm the marriage, nothing further, but neither party are listed as from outside the parish. The thing is to be considered a resident of the Parish one was only required to have been residing there for a period of more than 3 weeks. A person resident of the parish for less than 3 weeks was considered a sojourner (Short term resident). If he was residing elsewhere it would have listed this, but really all this tells us is that he had been a resident of Madron for at least 3 weeks prior to his marriage. Really he could have been born anywhere.
I mention this as the OPC has a great site for Madron but I see no baptism listed for Henry there.

I tried the OPC's search facility and the only Henry they have listed at this time for about the right time is in Camborne

I have a comprehensive list of free Online Parish Records Listed here you may find of interest when researching Cornwall

I find this very simple little map helpful in seeing just where the parishes lie

We are very lucky when researching Cornwall to see just what has been transcribed and is available Free of Charge on the net.

Hi Kris,
Thanks for all the info. Will definitely be looking at those sites. Will have to get my "better half" into looking too, as this is his family.
Regards, Julie

My apologies Julie,
There most certainly is a Henry baptised in Madron, Listed on the Madron Site for 1769. I must have checked 1771-1780 twice and not checked 1761-1770. My only excuse is I was distracted by an Indian Telephone Marketer while I was looking ::)
The Baptism lists father as William. Sadly there are multiple choices of William Cock's marrying in Madron around the right time.
Hope you and hubby find some sites of interest to explore
Cheers Kris :D
