Title: Dillon family of Dundalk, County Louth
Post by: nollid on Saturday 24 March 07 15:35 GMT (UK)
Dillons of Dundalk

An update -

Having made contact with the registrar of Dundalk I now have more information on my Dillon family of Dundalk.
My grandad was John Charles Dillon - he was one of 9 children born to John and Elizabeth Dillon (nee Dougan)
his brothers and sisters as follows -
Patrick James, Frederick, Joseph, Francis (Frank) Elizabeth (Lily) William, Mary Ann and Thomas all born between 1895and 1915.  They were all born in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. They all had children apart from Frederick and Joseph who died in infancy.
Thomas married May Hoey had 2 children
Elizabeth (Lily) married Paddy Devlin had 5 children
Patrick James Dillon had 5 children
Does anyone recognise any of the names listed - I do have more names if of any interest.
Many thanks
Jayne

Hiya Jayne, :)

You could try Brendan`s site, I found it very useful and came across some names that have helped in my search.

Hiya Jayne, :)

Don`t we all need `the push` :) ;)

It was finding some papers belonging to my late mother, that gave me the `push` so many `secrets` are taken to the grave, it`s a shame.

Do you know which cemetary your relatives are buried in?

Hiya Aunty Em

Not sure - My grandad was born 14.11.1897 baptised 15.11.1897 at St Patrick's Dundalk and it states they lived at Wrightson's Lane, Dundalk but thats it.
We know the families all lived and died in Dundalk apart from my grandad as he moved to England so I have his information, its his brothers and sisters, their mum and dad etc I would like more info on.
There are living relatives in Dundalk as I am in contact with one of Franks grandchildren but he doesn't have much info at all as yet.
They were all Roman Catholic and as I am new to this I just don't know what church belongs to which religion!! Sorry I am a little ignorant on that!
kind regards
Jayne

Hiya Jayne, :)

It`s possible he`s buried in Dowdallshill cemetary, my G Grandfather was the first internment at that cemetary in 1895.

You could also try http://www.familysearch.org

I managed to find my paternal grandfather on the above site

Here is a website curtesy of Brendan that you could try to locate the graveyard.

http://www.irishgeneology.ie/gravestones/

Think both of us could be hitting brick walls for rellies in Dundalk, however, onwards and upwards!!

Good Luck!!

Regards

Hi Mary
That's great - my grandad was John Charles Dillon (1897)and his fathers name was John Charles Dillon (1874) also, he married Elizabeth Dougan in 1894 so that would make him about 20 when he married - his father was Charles so this sounds very promising, thank you - just what I needed to lift my spirits!!
Many thanks
Jayne
Ps - where did you find this info?

Hi Aunty Em

Luck would have a friend called just as we were off to Tesco's, so my husband has gone instead!
So after a well earned cuppa - back on the rootsweb!
I emailed a lady named Meg Greenwood - scotquester@bartnet.net - mark it Louth Lookup - she will them get back to you for more info - explain what you are after and then on she will ask the questions - it is from a good site where they have volunteers to help but I cannot find the site I got it from - but the email address is all you need.  She sounds very nice and will help you all she can re County Louth lookups. census, b, d and m's but she does need dates to help her along.
Hope this will help
Kind regards
Jayne
