Title: John and Ann (Griffiths) Owens
Post by: Rich32825 on Saturday 24 March 07 13:57 GMT (UK)
My gg grandparents John and Ann (Griffiths) Owens(s) may have lived in Caernarvonshire before coming to the U.S. in 1850. In the 1841 Census  I find John Owens, born abt 1811 and Ann Owens, born about 1811 living in Llangian, Caernarvonshire,  Wales. (Their years of birth match what I have) The farm was called Tanyffordo (sp?). Also, the following children were listed:  Margaret (1833), John (1835), Owen (1838), Catherine (1841). Also listed is Margaret Griffiths (1766). This may be Ann's mother.  I know that John and Ann had a son Owen (my records have him b. abt. 1841) But, we have no record of a Margaret, John or Catherine in this country. My mother, the oldest surviving member of this branch, has never heard of them.  Margaret and John may have been old enough to be on their own when their parents emigrated and stayed in Wales. Perhaps Catherine died as a child, (I can’t find her in the BMD). I writing this in hopes it will ring a bell with other Owens researchers and we can make a connection. Thank you!

This is quite an old query, I happened to read.

You say the family came to the US in 1850.  Do you mean 1850s, 'cos they are in the 1851 Welsh Census.

You are right. I totally missed them in 1851. Thanks for your help and catching my error before I traced the wrong family too far.

The family home was probably Tanyffordd which means 'below the road'
