Title: Whelan=Hosford at Castletownsend
Post by: lorisg on Sunday 28 November 04 00:35 GMT (UK)
My Gt grandparents were Kate Whelan and Wm Hosford who were married at Castletownsend in 1868. Kate's parents were Jeremiah Whelan and Mary O'Driscoll.  William's parents were John Hosford and Kate O'Neil.  Would love to contact other researchers /descendants ? of these names in this area.  William gave his birth place variously as Durrus, Bandon, Cork? when he registered his own children's births in Australia.  Any help appreciated.

Hi,

There is a catherine Hosford headed household in the griffiths valuation in Killountain Ballymodan  (near Bandon) West Cork that would be worth investigating. Perhaps go to Parish records?

Thanks very much Kated,
I notice you also have Driscoll interests. I guess if there were any bells ringing there you would have told me.  How can I access parish records of Castletownsend etc?  I have only the marriage record of Wm Hosford and Kate Wheland and the birth cert of their first daughter.   Loris

Hi

From my own research I found the Church of Ireland Records office in Dublin very helpful indeed.  All COI records were taken from from the various churches throughout Ireland.  Surely they have a record of the marrage.

Contact Dr.Susan Hood  at susan.hood@rcbdub.org

Best of luck with it.

Hi,

The National Library in Dublin has catholic parish registers on film including West Cork. Check out their link on my website.

There are few surviving Anglican registers as many were destroyed in 1922 fire in the GRO.
