Title: deaths during second world war II
Post by: sadietoo on Wednesday 21 March 07 23:48 GMT (UK)
Please forgive my ignorance. If someone died during the war (in active service or as a civilian) would the death be registered on the BMD?? I am trying to follow up my Whitesmith lead, Great Aunt May (nee smith) had nine children including three boys  None seems to have married, I have a possible death for one in 1984, but have tracked the others through from birth to 1966(so far) and have not turned up any possible death certificates, and I am just wondering if I should be looking elsewhere.

As ever your help greatly appreciated.

All deaths were registered, as required by law.

Thanks Stan.  I thought they would have to be, it is just strange that I haven't found any marriages for any of the three boys.

Cheers and regards Sadietoo

Have you tried looking at the Commonwealth Graves site to see if they were killed abroad?  That may be another source.

Is it possible that some or all of them might have emigrated (Australia,Canada,New Zealand,South Africa)?
