Title: Friends of Romanies Website
Post by: Pochontas on Tuesday 20 March 07 22:46 GMT (UK)
FoR (Friends of Romanies) is an ongoing project to help teach people of Romani heritage about their culture and customs. It is also a portal to other Rom & Traveler based sites.

Hullo rebekahm28. I notice you list WILKES as one of your surnames. Would you have any connection with WILKS in Worcestershire?

Jamie -
The Wilkes are my sons direct ancestors (through his fathers side).  I have my sons great grandfather as Baden Wilkes, who married into the Astell family.  He was born 1909, and lived his life in Banbury.  However, I havent (yet) started to go back further on his tree. He called himself Jack throughout his life.

Well, if you do research the WILK(E)S and find some ancestors in Worcs, let me know  :)

Mine came from Grimley, and Hallow in Worcs and Winchcombe in Gloucs. I'm not sure that they're Romany though.

Jamie, made considerable progress and they were definately from the Warwickshire/Oxfordshire border, mainly Tysoe and Radway.  They were not Romany.
