Also looking for James Wolfenden on the 91 census. he would have been 32 born salford, wife Sarah Jane.

1841 census for Middleton - all b Lancs
John Wolfenden joiner aged 45
Mary 45
Abraham 15
Ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 years so if Abraham was born 1824 and aged 17, he would become 15
-
great thanks
-
Maybe not so great - in 1851 he is still with parents but has acquired a wife named Ellen - not Margaret
-
oh right haha, typical ;D
-
This may be him on the 1851 but purely because he was b Salford - wife is Ellen
Abraham Wolfenden 30 b Salford Loom factory - cotton worker
Ellen 32 b Manchester
Martha Whitehouse servant
Address was 90 Upper Moss Lane Hulme
None with a wife Margaret - ? second marriage
-

Presume you have access to Ancestry if you have just found them on the 1861. Is it a mis-spelling as WOLVENDEN?
No trace 1851 - may be on the water damaged part

I've just been having another look and have tried under Margaret & Ellen as well but no joy. Suggest posting for an unfilmed lookup as Salford was one of the areas affected by the water damage
-
oh brilliant thanks your advice and all your help

Hi, I know this is a long shot, and it has been many years since last post on this thread, but this is my family I am tracing at the moment and this came back on a search, I assume you managed to resolve what you were looking for??, it has taken me 2 years to get to the bottom of John Preistley and Ellen Wolfenden on the 1881 census.
