I have managed to trace my tree back as far as my great great great grandfather. His name was William Powell he was born in Penbryn, Cardiganshire in approx 1822 and died in 1896. I am trying to find out where he was buried. I have recently visited St Michaels Church in Penbryn but was unable to find a grave for him here.(a lot of the stones were worn away) Please can someone guide me as to how I can find out where he was buried. Also I have been fortunate to find a lot of information leading on from information I was already in receipt of thru special events records kept by my Great grandmother - I have used Ancestry.co.uk but still dont feel I am looking in all the places I could be so any Genealogy tips regarding tracing graves/cemeteries etc. will be gratefully received. Basically I am still very much a beginner in this fascinating subject !!

Hi
suggest you contact family history society they would be able to tell you if the church yard has been documented.
If it has they would be able to advise you.
You could also try on http://www.familyhistoryonline.net

Another thing I am confused about ???
My Greatgrandparents Thomas Cynwell Phillips and Sarah Mary Phillips (nee Howell) mention on a special events record that I am fortunate enough to have a copy of that they adopted a Kate Sparrow in Dec 1902 - they had their own children prior to this and after this date - there is no mention who was the birth mother of Kate Sparrow - or if they changed her name or any records - is it possible to find parish records anywhere that would show they adopted her or had her christened - obviously I dont know if they changed her name or when/where she was born ? They lived in Llwynypia, Ystradyfodwg at the time - and also mentioned in the special events record four years later Fanny Sparrow died - I wonder if this was the mother she was only 19 when she died ??
Like I sat on my earlier response I appear to have hit a wall (on both sides of the family tree )

Hi
does it give the age of kate when she was adopted.
Llwynypia is in the Rhondda Valley
cheers cardiff

No unfortunately it dosent !! The whole of the Phillips and Powell family at this time were all from Llwynypia and Ton Pentre, in the Rhondda Valley - I have managed to find quite a few of the graves in Trealaw and Treorchy cemeteries. I think Kate Sparrow will forever remain a mystery !! Thanks

Sometime ago I posted a message regarding Kate Sparrow on Ancestry website - and one of the Sparrow family contacted me and confirmed Fannys name was actually Ada Fanny Sparrow - and no I dont have any other information ...... Sarah Phillips did live to a good age, but her daughter my Grandmother died aged 54 - nearly as young as her Father - the Powell side of the family seem to be the side of the family that lives till an older age - tho my Father was only 72 - his father died after him at the ripe old age of 104 !!

Hi
did't the family know anything of her daughter Kate? Tht is if Kate was her daughter or could have been her sister.
