Hi, everyone - I am new to this. :-[ :-\
I am trying to locate the baptism, or any detail, of William Augustus LONG who, according to the Embarkation Shipping Record migrated to Australia in 1839 from Mortlock Somerset, born 1833. He arrived with his brothers Henry and Robert (his sister Jane having died on the voyage) and his parents William Augustus born c1808 and Jane also born c1808.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. :)
Thank you
Jeenie

Hi Allibaker,
Thankyou for the info.
It is very difficult to understand the geography, being so distant.
Jeenie. :)

Being completely new to Rootschat, I could have worded my original request better :-[ eg,
I am trying to trace the family and ancestors of William Augustus LONG and his wife Jane, both born c1808, who migrated to Australia in 1839 from Mortlock [apparently Martock - thank you alli] with their family of another William Augustus, Henry and Robert, 9, 6 and 3, and their sister Jane 3 mths (who died on the voyage). The younger William married Ann BAKER in South Australia 10 Dec 1853.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Jeenie. :) :)

Hi Jeenie,
Welcome to Rootschat! Sorry that no one has been able to provide much for you as yet :-\
Unfortunately, the parish records from Martock are not available on the International Genealogical Index ("IGI" - www.familysearch.org) - a common source for church records of baptisms and marriages. I was hoping to find the baptisms of William, Henry, and Robert, since they are before the start of civil registration in 1837.
However, this looks like the index entry for the birth registration of Jane. If you order the certificate, it will tell you her mother's maiden name, which would help you trace the marriage of William and Jane.

Thank you ever so much for your effort, and the information you supplied ! :D ;D
I will order the birth certificate as suggested from the info you have found.
I have spent hours searching through the sites, and I will be able to utilize this for searching other family lines eg, I have broken down a brick wall for another ancestor ! :D ;D
So thank you again,
Jeenie. :) :)

Hi Jeenie,
Glad to have been able to help! And glad that you found the sites useful. The genuki site is fantastic, with a page for just about every parish in the UK. Some hold more detail than others, as they are all maintained by different volunteers, but they really help with the basics of each parish.
Happy hunting! ;D

Hi Jeenie, Dave and Barb,
I am also a descendent of William August Long and have details of family in Australia - particularly in NSW. It would be great to touch base and share info, but I'm not sure how to do this without publically disclosing email address.
Can you help?
Anne
