Title: Sparrow Hall/Halstead House
Post by: newbrunswick on Sunday 18 March 07 18:21 GMT (UK)
I am looking for the existance of "Sparrow Hall", supposedly located in Cheshunt, Herts. on Goff's Oak Lane.  It may now known as Halstead House.  I have been informed that this property was once the country estate of Charles Farrin, a very allusive ancestor of mine.  This would be in the very early 1800's.  Does anyone out there know if this information is correct.  I would appreciate any help I can get on the Farrin-Ettridge family line in this area.  I have all that the census and IGI batches contain, but still cannot confirm this person's existance, other than family records.

You are right in that it is called Halstead House and yes it is located off of Goffs Oak Lane.  I went there once during the early 1970s.  As i remember it, the family who lived there were in films or something like that.  They had a son who used to go to The Cuffley & Northaw Youth Club.  He had a party there and a lot of us went.  I'm afraid that is all I know.

Thanks so much for the confirmation of Halstead House.  I'm afraid that I still have been unable to confirm the existence of Charles Farrin, reportedly, the early owner.  At least I know that some of the information in the family records is accurate.  Thanks again from Canada
