Hello,
I'm looking for any information of John Harrison Ward, born about 1820's, somewhere in Dublin County. He married [I think] Elizabeth Stainthorp, but don't know if the marriage took place in Ireland or England. I understand the story to be that he left Ireland with two brothers and possibly one sister and settled in Whitby, Yorkshire. His trade was tailor - another brother being a sailmaker. Any help would be appreciated. :) :) :)whpool

Do you know the religion? They surnames sound Anglican to me. If so, marriages post 1848 were registered.
You can search the marriage indexes for them. Check the reference matches for each name and that’s the right page. These are available at the Dublin GRO or on film at your local family history centre. (Church of the latter day saints) http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp for your nearest.
The marriage cert will give you both the father's names, their occupations and addresses and sometimes whether they are dead. The witness names can sometimes be useful.
Then you have to take the reference to the Dublin GRO for a copy of the register entry. www.groireland.ie

Hi,I’m not sure if you still check on here but I am a direct descendant of the Wards and John HARRISON Ward was born 3 months after his Father James died .James was married to Elizabeth Parsabel who remarried some years later to John Harrison ,who’s surname she registers with John Harrison Ward ,that’s where the confusion starts it took me a while to find the evidence ,but definitely from Whitby and the same Ward .You’re Ancestor Francis is my Ancestors brother mine was called Richard born 1858 in Whitby but moved to Hartlepool..I’m trying to go further back but stuck on Thomas Ward if Thomas is the right name ant 1760 “not sure if it’s correct because my granda used to say a Ward married a Quaker and only one I can find is Sarah DICKINSON but I’m struggling to piece anything together..hope this helps

To KUDR - ages since I've been on this site, was surprised to find your message. 2007 since I was asking, and yes I found that Elizabeth Parsabell married James Ward. I posted on Ireland board, because I was told that the Wards originated from Ireland, [sailors] moved to Whitby. My Francis Ward was in West Hartlepool 1871 census, occupation sailor.
Didn't know about Elizabeth marrying John Harrison - interesting. I since moved this thread to North Yorkshire board. You might have a bit more info than I have, so happy to pm if you wish. Regards.

Hi, that would be great if you could pm me ,i have been going around in circles trying to get past James Ward ,I have plenty of information on James but I just can’t be sure I have his parents correct. The only stories I heard as child was the Quaker and my granda used to say we were travellers ,but I haven’t found anything to support the travelling theory, maybe with both our info we could figure it out. Kind regards.

Hello again KDUR - you have to do at least 3 posts before you can pm. How did you know I came down from Francis? Also I have christening record for John Harrison Ward - father James Ward, mother Elizabeth Parcebel 1826 Catholic Church, Whitby. Regards

Hi ,oh I see I didn’t realise you have to do 3 posts ☺️ I’m not very clued upon these forums ..I read in one of your’e post’s you mentioned Francis ,did John Ward lead you to James then a Thomas ,that’s we’re I’m stuck at Thomas I’m using Ancestry Website and I’ve found quite a lot of birth registers death marriage certificates and census but not much on Thomas and that’s why I’m wondering wether he’s the right ancestor I can’t seem to pin point any siblings for James either or any census showing he came over from Ireland it’s all very frustrating aha would be nice to go further back with Wards ..
