Sorry, but I am not familiar with the Yorkshire area. I would be grateful if you could tell me where I could go to do birth lookups for Doncaster, post 1950's.

You can find births for the whole of the 20th century on Ancestry.co.uk  You will have to trawl through the images, but it's free.

Doncaster is in West Yorkshire. Births from 1837 forward can be searched for at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

Thank You to both of you for this information ... with it I have managed to find exactly what I was looking for. It has also prompted me to learn more about the geopgraphy of that part of the world, well, everything south of our border anyway.
