Hi Sarah
I've had a look on www.ancestry.co.uk death index for 1Q 1917 and he's not there. Is the gravestone perhaps for someone else and his name added because he died abroad in WW1?

Hi Sarah,
Could he be the David Woodward, son of Jane and the late Adam, husband of Agnes Williams? There is a soldier of the same name in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers on the Commonweallth War Graves Commission website:www.cwgc.org
The parents and wife give addresses in Flintshire, his age is shown as 26 and date of death 27th March 1917.
His name appears on the Jerusalem Memorial in Israel.

Hi Sarah
I thinkit is as Nanny Jan suggests. I've just looked at the North Wales BMD which is complete for Flintshire and nearer source than the GRO index and he's not there.

Hi Nanny Jan
WOW!! ;D
Was just about to type his parent's names in.....Jane and Adam, Adam died in 1905 and Jane in 1931!!
Had no idea he was killed in WW1.......looking back at gravestone pic his name has been added to his parents and sister's grave...
Thank you so much!!

Sarah,
All the details on the cwgc site can be printed plus there is quite a bit of detail about the Jerusalem Memorial which you can also print.....very handy for the family file!
Still not sure how you can get a death certificate for WW1; I got one for an uncle shot down in WW2 but not from the general index.
Maybe a posting on the Armed Forces Board will yield a result for you.
Good Luck,
Nanny Jan

Hi Sarah
My name is Paul Salisbury. My mothers name was Mair Woodward and her mother was Katherine Woodward. I was born in Hawarden, North Wales and lived in Rhyl before emigrating to New Zealand in 1972.
Purely by chance I have been researching David Woodward who died in WW1 and your posting came up. So so somewhere along the line we are related.
Can you enlighten me please. I have very little family history due to family feuds and the distance of time.
I hope you will reply.
Thanks
Paul
