Post by: isy on Sunday 11 March 07 18:52 GMT (UK)
I am trying to trace my grandfather - George Parker - I have got his death certificate (21/2/21)  registered by his sister Lucy Street but cannot find his marriage certificate (spouse Annie Hurry or  birth certificate.   I think his parents were Thomas and Mary and other siblings Ellen, Maud and Arthur.   Can any one help please

Hi Isy,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

What else do you know about him? How old was he at death? When were his children born?  :)

Hi Tati,

Thanks for speedy reply.

He was 40 when he died in an accident at work (Laundry engineer), in Ilford, Essex and he had 2 children at the time, my father also George and Edith.

Can you just tell us when the children were born, to help narrowing down the marriage year?  :)

Yes, that is the family but on the 1901 census Lucy has disappeared and another brother appears.

I have tried BMD to find certificates but to no avail

Hello Isy
I see from the 1901 census that George is shown as George T Parker.
Looking for a birth in the West Ham Registration District brings up a number of George Parker entries but only one with the second name beginning with T.

Births Sep 1879
Parker  George Thomas     W. Ham  4a 70

What do you think?

I have searched complete BMD between 1914 and 1917 and couldn't find a marriage.

1901 reveals that he is George T

Can anybody see the family in 1881?  :P

Not having much luck with the 1881 - they must be very badly transcribed or dodged the census!
Good luck with the certificate Isy.

Barbara & Tati,

You have made my day!!   Being fairly new to this I was starting to get a bit frustrated.

Thomas does seem to have been born in many places, I have found him in Northampton, Lincoln and now Bedford.

Will keep you b oth informed

Title: George Thomas Parker/Annie Hurry
Post by: isy on Wednesday 05 August 15 20:11 BST (UK)
I am once again trying to find the marriage of George Thomas Parker and Annie Hurry my grandparents.   I put this to bed a few years ago, but due to the interest of my 8 year old granddaughter, I am having another go and trying to find this information.   George Thomas was born in 1878 at 5 Balaam Street, Plaistow, London and Annie was born in 1889 at 4 Grove Cottages, Ilford, Essex.   Without this information I cannot trace George's parents.   The only information I have on his family is that at his death in 1921 his sister Lucy who registered his death,  her married name was Street and she lived in Lee, Kent.

If anyone out there can point me in a new direction I will be truly grateful and please one little girl, and hopefully encourage her interest.

Irene

Have you already tried to find the marriage via rootschat - so we could see the previous suggestions?

Do you mean you cannot find George's birth certificate either, as that would have both parents' names?

A tree on Ancestry has his birth as 24th June 1879 in Plaistow, Essex and his
death as 21st February in Romford, Essex.

If that is him, this looks like the family in 1901

In your other post you say he had a sister Lucy whose married name was Street

Lucy Parker married in 1898 to William George Street and her marriage cert shows her father as James Parker occ labourer.  Lucy was 19 at the time of her marriage so born approx 1879

Baptism of George Parker to same parents on 1.11.1882 also at St Clement.  Address looks like 16 Tenterden St.  Birthdate 22.4.1881

That date ties in with the age you say he was when he died (40 in 1921)

If he was born in Plaistow, I wonder why he was baptised elsewhere?

I wondered if Annie married shortly after the 1911 census, and then married George (with or without Thomas).

Hurry seems to be a name that is often mis-transcribed.

I don't know how that birth address was obtained given that no birth cert is available and his parents are unknown

There's a marriage in Notting Hill    1900

George Parker age 19  - father James Parker  a labourer
To Annie Lockyer

Maybe that's why they didn't marry.   Difficult to clarify that it's the same George Parker though.

Could I ask why have we moved away from the 1901 census where George T is shown to be a Drapers Assistant with a father Thomas who was a bootmaker and assumed the 1909 marriage which ties in with this is not correct? Just because Annie has the wrong surname?

George's address is given as Stratford (Essex) which would tie up with everything else we know.

There is a George Parker born Plaistow in Camberwell district in the 1911 census and a possible death of Annie M Parker in Lambeth district who could be the right age if the 1909 marriage is correct.

Isy, could I ask how you have a specific place of birth without a birth certificate?

How did you arrive at the suggestion his father was called Thomas?

There is a tree online with the Annie Brett marriage but an almost identical date of birth. That George Parker died much later in Sussex.

I, personally, went along with the children of James (which Carole W found) as that daughter, Lucy, married a Street.  Whereas the Lucy from Thomas' family appears to have married a Henry Davis.

Also, George with father James was a Laundry Engineer by 1911.  Same as occupation on death cert.

That's the  one  I  was  looking  at   last night ,   thinking  it  was  Isy's   man ,   but   I don't think   its  him ,  there's  too  much    source  evidence   to   prove  otherwise    ie  probate  records  for Annie Maude   Parker  nee  Brett

The   George  Parker   born  to  James and Mary     baptised  in 1882 (   as  mentioned  in a  previous  post  )  marries  an Annie Lockyer  in 1900,  In 1901     he's   a  carman   and  Annie   born Barking  ,  10  years on     George   has the same  occupation  as Isy's man   had   on  death .   Maybe    he  separated from Annie    and took  up  with  Annie  Hurry  .

Lucy Street   who  Isy  said  was  informant   had  a   daughter    who   married  a  Robert  Hurry,  ( born  Ilford  in 1887 ) Robert   is on 1901   census  with   widowed  father   also Robert   and an 11  year old  sister  Annie
