Hi All,
I am looking for Robert & Maria Hallam in 1841. I have them in 1851 & 1861 as follows:
1851 Census(I): HO107/2069-22 Rugby, WAR
9 Chapel St., Robert Hallam, head, 33, fishmonger, Lutterworth, Leics
9 Chapel St., Maria Hallam, wife, 27, Rotherhithe, London
1861 Census(I): RG9/2154-?? Birmingham
113 ?, Robert Hallam, head, mar, 43, fishmonger, Lutterworth, Leics
113 ?, Maria Hallam, wife, mar, 38, London
They married in 1840 in Surrey as follows:
10 May 1840. Robert Hallam (22, bachelor, grocer, resident at Mary Street) married Maria Woodbine (minor, spinster, resident at Mary Street) by banns. Fathers: John Hallam (steward) & John Woodbine (cooper). Place of marriage: Parish Church, Parish of St. George the Martyr Southwark. Curate: AJ Rogers. Witnesses: John Woodbine, Emma Woodbine
I suspect that in 1841 they were still living in Surrey - possibly in Rotherhithe.
I wonder whether anyone is able to find them? If you are also able to provide an image that would be wonderful - if not, then I'd still be very grateful for the details and reference no's.
Many thanks for reading this!
Kind regards,
William

Hallo Wulliam (or William??),
Did your Maria Hallam nee Woodbine have a brother called John Ebenezer Woodbine, born circa 1811? He lived in the St George's/Bermondsey area and worked as a painter and/or trowler (??). He died in the cholera epidemic that swept through Bermondsey in 1849

Hi Sleepless,
I haven't come across a John Ebenezer in this family. You can see someone else's researches on this family:

I haven't taken their work for granted but it is undoubtedly 'my' family.
Kind regards,
William

Thank you for that. I have come across that tree before. I think they are the only well-documented South London Woodbines around. I have always thought it curious that John and Ann Woodbine, who married in 1797, did not have their first child until 1808. Some of the trouble may be that 'Woodbine' appears to be a difficult name to transcribe correctly. For example, John Ebenezer and his family definitely appear in the 1841 census, but I have yet to find a website - certainly, not Ancestry.co - that lists them.
