I am trying to find information on the Argent family of Wickhambrook, Suffolk, Joseph Argent son of Robert Argent and
Anne Philippa Newman was born in 1844 in Chevington he married Mary Ann Chapman in WIckhambrook and they lived there and had five children, Frederick, Charles, Martin, Jane and Julia, Julia died in infancy.
Frederick and Martin followed their father in to the shoemaking business, and were named in Joseph's will when he died in 1910.
They were to receive his tools and his stock in trade and a share of his £777.05.04 estate, the will states that Frederick had moved to Middlesboro [sic] and Martin had moved to Cambridge.
Jane was to get his house and a share of the estate, there was no mention of Charles, I do not know if he died or was just not mentioned.
I would love to know more about Frederick and Martin's life after they left Wickhambrook, were they apprenticed to someone and how would I find this out?
I look forward to finding out more.
Regards
Carol

Hi Carol,
Do you have Frederick and Martin on the later census records?
Regards, Emma ;)

Hi Emma
I have Martin at home in Wickhambrook in 1891 listed as a shoemaker but he is not there in 1901, Frederick is not there in 1891.

This is where it gets complicated....if it is the same Mary Ann Chapman! (Parents William Chapman and Harriet Wright??)
Mary Ann Chapman b.c. 1843 Wickhambrook had a brother Robert Chapman b.c. 1856 Wickhambrook. He maried Jane Hinds b.c. Wickhambrook.
Jane had a sister Eliza Hinds b.c. 1856 Wickhambrook. She married George Thorogood b.c. 1855 Wickhambrook.
George's brother Alfred Thorogood b.c. 1852 Wickhambrook married Jane Murkin b.c.1854 Wickhambrook.
Jane's Father was William Murkin b.c. 1825 Wickhambrook and he had a sister called Charlotte Murkin b.c. 1823 Wickhambrook.
Charlotte Murkin b.c. 1823 Wickhambrook and Charles Edgley b.c. 1824 Wickhambrook were my 3xGt Grandparents!!
Don't ask me to work that relationship out!!
Regards, Emma ;)

Well its true what they say its a small world! Yes its the same Mary Ann Chapman and if you think its complicated now just listen to this, Charlotte's sister Elizabeth born circa 1813 married William Chapman in 1832 and their daughter Jane born 1853 married George King in 1870 his son Humphrey married.....wait for it... Jane Amelia Argent the sister of Frederick and Martin.
Hows that for a complicated relationship?

I'm researching this line...having Jane Argent, born abt 1851 to Robt Argent & Anne Phillipa Newman. Jane married Edward Seeley, son of Samuel Seeley (?) and Alice Kemp. Jane & Edward emigrated to Canada around the turn of the 20th century.
Any further info' on this family link will be appreciated.
