Title: Thaxted parish records - can anyone help me?
Post by: madaboutbuns on Tuesday 06 March 07 18:25 GMT (UK)
Hi,

My family come from Thaxted and despite trying have been unable to get/order parish records on disk etc  - can anyone help me at all?

My family are the Lowe family who were millers and used to run the Windmill in Thaxted.

Any information would be so appreciated - we live quite a way from Thaxted now.  Have tried to make two visits - both had to be cancelled.

This is a good site with details of Thaxted, plus I think links about the Record Office.

Cant see any mention of Lowes in the list under Millers, though

Thanks for that link - it looks familiar but will check it again!!!

The Lowe's were millers who lived in Thaxted from about 1861 onwards - the census mentions them - minus the 1851 as that was ruined due to a flood.  I've managed to find my great great grandfather listed in local telephone directories for Thaxted as a Miller.

It does look like it was towards the end of the century that they were able to be "officially" listed as Millers!  :)

Thanks!

Christine

Just wanted to make contact as I am also searching for records in Thaxted regarding a a miller, Frank Neville. Frank had a daughter born in 1864, so he was likely born in the 1930s. As we're searching in the same area, we may come across records which would help the other. I'll keep an eye out for your family, and maybe you would do the same for me?
