Could someone please look up my PATTERSON family in Sussex in the 1841 and/or 1851 census.
James PATTERSON and his wife
Keziah nee GOLDSMITH
I know very little about them except that they had a daughter
Martha PATTERSON born about 1811 in Brighton, Sussex.
Any census information would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Nick

I would request a lookup in the Sussex marriage index for their marriage which would give you a rough guide to their ages, since most marriages would be for people around their early 20s.

, I believe to be one of my branches. I have been trying to establish the parents and sibilings for the father William GOLDSMITH, whom I think died Jan 1795 age 43 therefore born about 1751.
As previously mentioned by others, there are many trees with apparent corrupted information. Is anyone able to do a parish look up locally to establish William's parents. I have found nothing on line except William's marriage to Elizabeth Midmore or Midmer in 1788 at Heathfield (IGI). Any help would be MOST welcome

Hi
Unfortunately the Sussex Marriage Index does not have any further details for the marriage, other than bachelor and spinster.
Are you a member of the Sussex Family History Group? They have online resources for members.
Heathfield All Saints 1560 - 1789
First names William
Surname GOLDSMITH
Sex s
Baptism Date 01-Oct 1748
Father James GOLDSMITH
Mother Mary Goldsmith
There is a possible marriage at Warbleton in 1747/8 for James to Mary Luck. Might be worth considering though looking at the original baptism entry may give more information. NB There is a burial for a William Goldsmith in 1753. (Edited)

Thank you sillgen,
No, I'm not a member of the Sussex FH Group. I find it hard to determine how worthwhile membership would be for all my areas of interest and try to prioritise them. I have a worldwide subscription to ancestry (giving me best value) but that is about it at the moment.
Unfortunately I am not able to visit to see the records themselves as I am in NZ these days so rely heavily on internet access, hence prioritising costs. I will however investigate the Sussex group as I am at a brick wall for this line.
many thanks for your notes too. MUCH appreciated. My late aunt investigated this line MANY years ago before computers and has William's parent s as Edward and Elizabeth but i do feel there is something not quite right despite knowing how meticulous she'd have been. There have been some traditional naming patterns too of which Edward would not particularly fit and James and Mary would but nothing is certain!
Thanks again for the hint

Just noticed I put the wrong century for the burial. I have amended it. SFHG is only around £12 a year. Heathfield was quite a centre for non conformists so that might be another area to research.
There is a burial for Mary Goldsmith age 72 at Hellingly on 6th Sep 1799.
