James Foster b abt. 1821 in Tring Hertfordshire married Sarah Brown in 1838.
Which of the many Fosters in Tring are his parents? Can anyone help me?
Many thanks,

Hi Q
James' father's name and occupation will be on his marriage certificate. Have you tried the complete GRO Indexes? Once you have the references, you can order it online.

If the couple married in Herts and you know the parish, you may get lucky and someone who is going to HALS may look this up for you.

Hi all,
I have James Foster b. 1821 in Tring; he married Sarah Brown b. 1815 on July 29, 1838 in Tring. James and Sarah had 3 sons, Josiah b. 1838, James b. 1839 and Henry b. 1845, all in Tring. James died in 1849 and Sarah went on to remarry twice.
Any help with James b. 1821's parentage would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again!

Hi Q,
I searched the Tring baptism records but could find no trace of James.
However, I located the entry in the Tring marriage register - 29July1838 James Foster Batchelor Labourer and Sarah Brown Spinster both of Tring were married after banns. Jame's father Richard Foster, Labourer and Sarah's William Brown a gardener. The witnesses were Jeremiah Clark
and Alice Brown.
At least we have solved half of the parentage problem.

Hi Q,
James/Sarah Foster, Richard/Mary Foster and Jeremiah Clark are all on the same page of the 1841. Try HO/442/6 Folio27 Page13.
Hope this helps.
