Hello I'm trying to find my Great grandfather John Crook and family. John was born between 1868 & 1870 in ALdershot England his parents are believed to be Mary Ann WILLIAMS and William CROOK. (father may of been a Royal Guard)
John had one brother Daniel CROOK. and maybe one sister Caroline CROOK.
The family moved to Australia when John was a small boy.
John married Ellen Pain or SPAIN (also know as PHILLIPS after the death of her father). in Lambton NSW 1891 they had 8 children all were born in and around Adamstown NSW. but one son was born in Korumburra VIC. John worked as a Miner and Unionist. He died in New Lambton NSW.
I would be most thankful for any help on this family. ;)
Thank you for your time.
Cheers Venali

Hi Venali,
Many of the sons of John Crook and Daniel Crook joined the Armed Forces in WW1
I think also grandsons of those 2 also did for ww2
Many of the war records are digitised so you can read them online.
The great value of these records is in that you can see actual addresses of the Next of Kin [in many cases that is John C. or Daniel C.] and lovely hand-written letters from loved ones. Much more too.
Cecil James has a very interesting file indeed....Bit of Hot Water and a very early marriage! Sadly, he was killed in France.
Interestingly, his English wife [Annie Bessie] of only a few months emigrated to Aust to live in the same town as her parents-in law. she re-married later.
Albert Thomas is a miner like his father .His parents, John and Ellen sometimes show different addresses.
Daniel [John?] enlisted in 1915 and seemed to be married then to Florence.
Richard ,son of Daniel and Elizabeth enlisted in both wars and in his second record is married to Coral.
William is interesting as he lists as NOK first his sister Ada Henderson then secondly his sister Lizzie Cooper
Bit of HOT WATER there in that file too!

Good reading.
