Title: Army Service Numbers
Post by: Alandal on Saturday 24 February 07 08:39 GMT (UK)
We have inherited an old simple silver pocket watch, which has the numbers “B46964” engraved on the rear.

How do we find out if this is a Regimental/Army Number ?

Unfortunately, we do not know if this is our ancestors own watch or if he “found” it , as he did work on the railways. It is possible that the Number may refer to the Railways rather than the Army.

Any pointers gratefully received,

Thanks,

Al & Al

Thanks for your reply.

As it is not a particularly 'posh' watch, we do not feel that it would be a SWB identification number - but could be proved wrong !

As there is no other identification on the watch, it looks like we will have to go down the Railway route ........

Thanks again

i would be very surprised if someone had used a SWB number on his watch as it has no significance other than a reference to the SWB card
