Hello,
I have been researching my grandmother's family in Wales with mixed success.
His grandfather is James Davis or Davies who was born in Ebb Vale c 1841 he married Sarah Parry in 1861.
They lived in Cardiff and can be found there on the 1871, 1881, 1891 census'.
They had 8 children between 1863 & 1879. (source IGI)
His eldest son William Henry James Davi/es is my grandmother's father.
I would like to know who James parents were and if he had any siblings. My grandmother claimed Clara Novello daivies the renowned singer/conductor as her aunt whom she had trained under to be an opera singer. I would like to prove or disprove this connection and lay it to rest.
Any inforamtion will be welcomed.

Looking at Rootsweb I found 7 James Davies born 1841. I think I'm right in saying that prior to 1861 the registration district for Ebbw Vale was Abergavenny, after that date it became Bedwelty.
Hope that helps.

Hi Robyn
I know the message I am referencing is quite old, but I only came across this yesterday.
William Henry James Davies is my paternal grandmother's maternal grandfather (His daughter Lillie is my great grandmother). I notice that he is also an ancestor of yours; do you have any information on him that you are willing to share? He was already deceased when Lillie married in 1918 but that's all I know right now.

Jacqui,
I have replied on teh Semmens posting for Cornwall suggesting that we may be connected. I have a lot of material on the Davies and Chilcotts courtesy of Davies relations in the UK.
Trudy (Gertrude) Coleman nee Davies is the same age as my mother 82 and we meet when she visited her brother Frederick Davies and his wife and family in Brisbane 2 years ago. Sadly both Frederick and his wife have since died.
I can help if you let me know what information you are after.
I attended Sandringham primary school up unitl 1961 then Highett High.
I now live in Wodonga.
regards
Robyn
