Title: Waterman & Lighterman bindings
Post by: sunny on Thursday 22 February 07 20:41 GMT (UK)
Hello everyone,
I have some bindings, but I have a query for someone knowledgeable.
The Cd my cousin bought has bindings for over aged boys 1865-1926.

Was there anything earlier for over aged.
Why I ask is.
My James Thomas Worwood chr 1836 - father James Thomas Worwood.
On Baptismal entry father is a Carpenter, On marriage of JT in 1857 he was a waterman.
I figure he must have been over aged, as surely he would have been at least 18 at time of his sons birth.......
Any help greatly appreciated.
Attacking a brickwall with a toothbrush and a prayer.
Thanks in advance.
Sunny

Hi Sunny

I have had a look through the available CDs and I can only find the same CD you have already for over aged boys.

The sites selling the Waterman series are:-

www.parishregister.com

http://hometown.aol.com/rjcindex/trueflare.html

There is a cd on the site that may explain how some people became watermen without completing an apprenticeship...

Register of licences granted by Corportation of Trinity House to ex-mariners to ply their trade as watermen working on the River Thames 1829-1864

A very very long shot but who knows.

Sue

Hi Sue,
Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly.
I was afraid someone would say that....Grin!!!

We got our CD through the parish website.
As far as I know he was not a mariner. I cannot pin him down between censuses either, and methinks a little hanky panky went on between cousins and they were not allowed to marry. My next step I think might be Carpenters apprenticeships, but I believe some records are lost. I may never know on this family. Sigh
Thanks again
Sunny
