Title: Looking for William MAHON 1894
Post by: JudifJ on Tuesday 23 November 04 18:18 GMT (UK)
Hello from a newbie!

I am looking for my grandfather's birth record.  William Vincent MAHON, b. 1894 Enniscorthy??, Co. Wexford, d. 31 December 1960, Hemel Hempstead.  He married Daisy Evelyn Spicer in 1924(?).
I believe his father was John Mahon and his mother was Mary Laughlin(?).  All I know anecdotally was that he came to England via Liverpool to fight in WWI and won the Military Medal for saving his CO's life.
I would be grateful for any help in looking for his records as I have no idea how to go about searching in Ireland.
Thanks in anticipation
Judith Johnson (nee Mahon)

Hello Mo

Thanks for your very kind offer.  I have sent you a PM with all the details that I know.  Most of the information is anecdotal from my paternal aunt.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
With thanks
Judith

PS I discovered from my notes it is 1897, not 1894!

HI,

Plenty of Mahon's in my family. Mine are from Drumderry and Grangefort near Tullow in County Carlow. They then moved to Bunclody, which is up the road from Enniscorthy.

let me know if these link up with your Mahons

Regards
John

Possibly your William  ???

William Vincent Mahon born 20 Feb 1897. Monageer, County Wexford, Southern Ireland. Son to John Mahon and Mary O'Loughlin. This William married Daisy Evelyn Spicer on 26 January 1923 in Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire. This William died 31 December 1960, in St Pauls Hospital, Hemel, Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
Daisy was born 9 June 1901 in Buckinghamshire and she died 20 February 1973 in St Pauls Hospital Hertfordshire.

Hi drop bear,

i have checked with my mother and the other two children were marie and anne, anne is a lot younger than the others as daisy was 49 when she was born.  the surname Ball was also mentioned - whether daisy's maiden name or maybe one of the daughters married names

there was also another brother of john & william called Brian who died early

regards,

carol cool

To 'Bunclody Mahons" .... Then it’s very likely/most probable we are connected via the Bolinrush Kavanaghs’ and Gurteen Mahons’.   ;)

Cheers John G.

John G, do you have information on Mahons the generation before William 1894.  I have a photo in my family collection from Yonkers and the message on the back refers to William Mc Mahon, age 4, I posted on rootschat about it and had a lot of help but gaps in the Oulart parish register mean I will probably never be sure about the connection to my family.  see here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=639700.0

The family living at the address in Yonkers were Michael (Mc) Mahon and Ellen nee Leacy a couple with those names married in Oulart in 1891, he lived in Glenagark which is very near Monageer, his father was Thomas and his witnesses were Patrick Mahon and Eliza Nolan. I wonder if he is connected to your Mahons?
