Looking for information on James Yaxley (b abt 9/1853 Syderstone).
He emmigrated to Tasmania, Australia and married Mary Ling (b abt 1853 East Harling area to Joseph Ling & Eliza Thurlow) on 9/6/1873.

Looked at births for James Yaxley 1852-54 , several possible candidates:
Jan/feb/MAr 1853 James, tunstead area ref 4b 49. Interestingly appears to have twin, Joseph, ref 4b 48
Oct/Nov/Dec 1853 James, Docking area ref 4b 259
This one would fit in with your info he was born in Sept, could be registered in Oct
2 in 1854, a James Henry in Tunstead in A/M/J and a James William in Swaffham in O/N/D
There are lots of Yaxleys all registered in that 4b area, so it must be a very local name - no doubt they are all related in some way
Getting there marraige cert would give you their fathers names.
Birth cert would give parents

Thanks for looking up the details,
I obviously don't have enough info as yet to make certain which one it would be.
I have only just started again after a lengthy break of nearly 10 years so will have to make sure I ask the right questions and get more details on others first.
Thanks again

Hi
Do you know when they emigrated? Did they emigrate with their families or were they on their own?
I could then look for them while they were still in Norfolk.
Best wishes.

Thanks for the offer,
Not 100% sure when they emmigrated but the majority of emmigrants from that area of Norfolk came to Tasmania in March 1855 or August 1857. Would expect about then.
Sorry but I have no other details about James family.

Hi
Well that explains why they are not on the 1861 census then!!!
I will see what I can do.
If you want to see pictures of the Rudham/Syderstone area, have a look at my website in Norfolk Links at the top of the page.
Best of luck.

Hello Gary, we have a match, James b1853 d 1915 had several siblings Mary Emma Mathew Charlotte Sarah about half of them born in sorrel Tasmania,
Our connection is William Yaxley 1684 father of Thomas 1716 father of William 1748 father of Thomas 1786 , William yaxley 1684 is in my derect line, hope that makes sense! The Yaxleys all came from the Walsingham area and moved about to find work, I live about 3 miles from there, Do you live in Tasmania?

Hi Robin,
Yes I do live in Tassie.
Thomas (b 1791) is as far back as I have been able to go.

My wife is descended from the Syderstone Yaxleys - came to Tasmania as part of an immigration scheme based in Launceston, many of them methodists and nearly all poor labouring families.
I am completing a couple of chapters on the Yaxleys for the ubiquitous family history book.
Happy to share my research with you.
