There is a 1891 Census, I'm not sure if it's on-line anywhere, but I know the libraries have copies of them. Next time I am at my library I can look them up for you, unless someone finds the info. beforehand.

Wow Karen you have been a busy bee...All this info is great
and I cant thank you enough.
Strange though regarding his 2nd marriage to Louisa Smith before Rebecca died...oh well will just have to dig a bit to get to the bottom of it.
I would also very much appreciate a look up from the library next time you go if its not too much trouble.
Thanks again

Hi Joe,
No problem, next time I am there, I will look them up. I always like to sneak away to the library, I have a 2, 4 and 6 year old, plus husband so nice to go somewhere where there is peace and quite ;D
There is a Thomas Coupland who left England in March 1893, destination Ontario, In Transit, occupation Farm Servant. He arrived in New York, New York on the Etruria. His age is listed as 24 years old
Not sure if this is your man, but it's not uncommon for people to come to Ontario via New York, it was just as easy as coming in through the Canadian Ports.

I've just been searching for the same Thomas Coupland! Thomas Coupland is my mother in-law's great-grandfather and John Richard (born 1893) her grandfather. I was trying to find the cause of Rebecca Ann Coupland's death when I stumbled on this forum page. Are you descended from one of the Canada born Couplands, Joe?

The 1891 now online but they are not to be found it seems ( tried using only consonants)...elsewhere at census time?... I also checked no surname just Reb* in peel county and nothing even close to the surname...
-
They're registered as Copeland in lots of the documents.

Probably Rebecca, as it looks to be Coupland on actual image, altho transription says Campland ( Hit view record to see ) age 21 by herself, headed for Toronto (Sept. 6 1885 CIRCASSIAN)

If I find him, I'll add it to this reply as he'd have probably come out first
~~~
No...I cannot find him
Well I tried same ship, using T* and found a Thos. ?? But your guess is a good as mine as to what the page actually has written on it...I even took it into my image program to darken & smooth but I don't see any Thos or ages at all
looked at the boat passenger list , it is coupland . could not make out where Rebbecca Ann got off , told there were native indians working on the farm and took 6 weeks before they could bury Rebbecca Ann as the ground was so hard , the children were quite wild when they came back from Canada
Hi . Thank you for the reply. The info i have is that John Henry married Mary Elizabeth Marshall and had a son called Gordon 1912-1982 who married Lillan Pullman and had a child who is still living ?. Do you know what happened to John Henrys brothers and sister ie Thomas jnr, Elizabeth and William Henry. Also if you have any further it would be great as i have no photos at all of Thomas and of his first 2 marriages and kids. Still cant find out where he was buried but i believe he died in Huddersfield in 1951 but my dad and all his brothers/sisters have no memories of his death at all !!.
Couplands Boats for Leisure at Colnebridge was going at the turn of the century as someone recalled boat Sam in an article i read but have no idea who Sam was. Thomas snr and my dads family was brought up at the river and the boats but that was the 1920s onwards. Thomas Snr also was a coal merchant. Still trying to fit you in the tree as you i presume are Thelma Coupland from Mirfield so you must be Gordons daughter ?. It is quite strange that my dad told us the story of Toms first wife that when she died was put in a glass case for several weeks which we all thought was strange but hearing about the story of that she wasnt buried for 6 weeks does make sense now. Its like a jigsaw putting all the pieces together.Look forward to hearing from you.
Robert
Elizabeth Coupland married to Walter Henry Buttle 1907 Lived in Coln Bridge on 1911 census with 2 children , died 1925 . In picture Thomas , Louisa , Elizabeth maybe Mary Coupland she's on the 1901 census age 72 living in Mirfield , odd next door a John R Coupland born Brotherton
send more later . Thelma
Where do you live Robert ?
-
Hi. Still a bit confused where Thomas was born as on census he says from Kirkheaton but all the records say he was born Kirkby malzeard if his father was William and mother Mary Prest.
I now live in Halifax but from Huddersfield
