hi im not sure if this is the right thread to put this on but here goes.
i was in lincoln the other day and am starting work in a marks and spencer but we have to go to lincoln for training.
when i was given a tour the woman said this building is built on a cemetery :o i thought nothing of it but then later on in the tour backstage they told us the same thing and one of the other people that was on an induction had also heard this before the induction
does this really happen and if so is there any way of finding out what cemetery it was and who would be buried there

Hi Wileman,
I think I can answer part of your question. Marks & Spencer in Lincoln is next door to St. Benedict's Church - there is a photo here:

It is apparently 13th-14th century and was damaged in the English Civil War. As it stands today there is no graveyard but I suppose there must have been, once upon a time.

Lincolnshire Archives hold the burial registers for St Benedict from 1645 to 1854

I've just shown my husband this thread. He's heard this story too - he knows someone who works for a company which was doing some work to the war memorial in St. Benedict's Square, and apparantly you don't have to dig too deep to come across medieval graves, so the churchyard must extend under the pedestrianised High Street as well as under M&S.
