Hi
I have a family that is proving very hard to trace.
Wm Giddings born 1857 Gornals staffs,
married Emily Pickering born1855 Birmingham warwicks
They have two sons
William Clark Giddings b 1878 Kidderminster (in a cattle market)
and Frederick b 1880 Evesham Warwicks.
on the 1881 census they are in a caravan at the Fox and Goose yard, redditch worcs. At that time wm clark Giddings is down as wm j giddings.
the family are musicians and actors.
Its wc giddings I'm really interested in.
he married my great aunt Elsie stevenson in 1909 Q4 Leics.
they had 3 girls.
Elsie took her own life in 1937 aged 47 years, registered as in Brook Cottage, Tansley, Derbyshire.
The 3 girls were brought up in orphanages.
In 1919 we have a letter from W C Giddings to my gran (Elsie's sister), written from palestine saying he was with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force.
I've tried following
each parent and both sons through the census returns and on the LDS site, with no joy at all. They were always on the move.
Any help with this lot would be greatfully appreciated, not only by me, but also W C Giddings granddaughter (my second cousin) who I have met up with through all our research!
Thanks in anticipation

Hi
Not sure how far you have got with your research for the Giddings family, and if the information I have will be of any use/interest to you, but I came across Francis Ernest Giddings aged 38 who was a boarder on the 1901 census with my Great Grandparents (Henry and Annie Thomas) in Mountain Ash, Wales, and is listed as a showman. In the 1871 census he was 7 years old and lived with his parents James Giddings (Comedian) and Ann Giddings (actress).
Good Luck with your research :)
Happy New Year

I've looked in the british medal card archives for you there are two William C Giddings

I am wondering if the one in the Wiltshire regiment is yours? The 1/4th Wiltshire went to Eygpt
"The 1/4th Wilts was called into service in 1914 as part of the South Western Brigade of the Wessex Division and dispatched to British India. For the next three years, it performed internal security duties in India until being transferred to Egypt in 1917. There it continued to perform security duties until joining the 233rd Brigade, later the 234th Brigade, of the 75th Division, part of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force.[32] While serving with the 75th Division, 1/4th Wilts would see action at the Battle of Megiddo."
William J Giddings is in the Somerset Light horse

Hi Thank you for all your posts,
As you are aware my original post was written a long time ago, and was labelled "completed" because I had all the information I was looking for. This man is not an actual relative of mine but of a second cousins. I think she now has quite a full history of him.
Thanks again for your searching, but please don't be troubled with it on my behalf.
I am grateful but I think we have this information. :)
