Hi Sandee

Was the son John born in Oxfordshire ?  a year of birth and if possible a place for him might give us some clues as to where to start looking for the parents marriage

Hi Sandee ...

Have you already tried the BMDs - now available to search free on the Ancestry website?

I dont know if John was born in Oxfordshire I could not find a birth for him here in NSW the King's never moved from one area [decendants are still there but not speaking to our families] When i said around 1854 that was allowing John to be around 20 when married i could be way off on that date
No i have not checked the ancestry site did not know it was free will go there now and see thanks Pennie

Hi Sandee

Fraid you wouldn't be able to buy a marriage certificate as it took place pre registration (started 1837).

Have you  John KING on censuses prior to his marriage?
either NSW and/or UK

His death cert. may give an indication of his age and therefore narrow down his date of birth.

The 1825 marriage is a possiblity, bearing in mind that John could have been a later son (born 20 years or so after the marriage) or he himself may have married late.

I know what you mean about being slack when you started out doing your tree......I, and probably most of us were the same and are now regretting it  ;D

The 1825 marriage is definitely yours.

Your ancestor John was the brother of mine, Elizabeth, who married Bernard Connolly in 1846, West Maitland. I have heaps of information on this family.

Charles King was not born 1804 in Ambrosden, however. he was born in Chesterton.

Contact me if you are willing to share info.
