Dear Jan,
Wondering if you could look up in the Shropshire Archives the details of this marriage for me:
William ARTON & Sarah SMITH  Marriage:  07 May 1804,  Ellesmere, Shropshire, England
The question is, are there any details of William's occupation (I am looking for William Arton, Carpenter); or any details of either William's or Sarah's parents.

could I also ask for any details for this baptism
William ARTON Christening: 10 March 1805, Ellesmere, Shropshire; son of William ARTON  & Sarah
Again, especially any details of father William’s occupation.

Hi Trix

Although obviously not having having looked at the original records, I would say that the two items you have requested a look up for would be unlikely to have occupations mentioned. My own research tells me that occupations were mentioned on civil regsistration certificates after 1837, and also in Church Records, but not as early as 1804 or 1805.

Hello Trix

William Arton (christened 1805) is my Great, Great Grandfather and know his occupation was a foreman at albert dock in Liverpool. Do you have any information about his marriage to Martha, like her maiden name or date of wedding, etc. I have the census returns for William and his son Henry Arton

William Arton (1805 christening) was my great, great grandfather. He worked as a foreman at albert docks, Liverpool. He married martha but I don't know when or her maiden name. Can you help?

I think Martha, William's wife, was born Martha Batchelor & was a widow when she married William. I will search out the detail I have on her & send them to you.
