Does anyone know if the building at 4 Holmdene Avenue, Herne Hill is the one that existed in 1899?
My ancestor John Barker Smith and his wife Maria and daughter Lilian lived there.
If so, I would like to obtain a photo if possible.
(I also posted this on the Surrey board, but don't know which one is right...!)

Dear Byron
Well, guess what, Nos 2 & 4 Holmdene Avenue don't seem to exist any more! Newish flats have gone up in their place, unfortunately.
However, I've taken a picture of No 10, and of the houses opposite the plot of land where No 4 existed and I'll PM them to you once I can get my digital camera to upload them (*?%!*, it worked yesterday!).
In the meantime you might be interested in looking at these sites about Herne Hill (pub, church, leisure and history):

Thanks Gaie
I'm not really surprised that the old houses have gone, but I would like to see what the area looks like now, so keep working on that digital camera!
I'll have a look at the sites you mentioned.
Thanks
Byron
