Post by: Kev Searching on Wednesday 31 January 07 17:51 GMT (UK)

Cheers

Hi Kev,

Could it be Mycroft or something similar?

Or Myers with a very fancy final 's'?

I agree with lesleyhannah - 'Myers'.

Hi Kev

It does look like Mycroft or Myers - do you have any dates, etc. It could then be checked against any other BMD certs that contain a reference to her. I've managed to confirm names this way a number of times.

I'd forget Mycroft - the supposed 'f' is in fact the 'g' of Irving. My vote goes to Myers.

Must admit defeat, after looking at everyone else's replies, it definitely is Myers - sorry!

Hi folks

Thanks for the great response. I think I'll go with the flow and try Myers.

In response to Gadget, I don't have very much info to go on. The image was taken from her daughters (Penelope) death cert in 1866. I suspect Penelope was born about 1796 Hoddam (found this on the 1851 census) and her parents were John Irving and Jane Myers but I have been unable to find any records relating to the BDM of any members of the family except Penelopes death.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Kev

Hi Kev

Do you have any details of any of Penelope's siblings from the OPRs/IGI?

I've looked at Hoddam but can't find Penelope's baptism there although there are quite a few Irvings with a father John (at least one with a mother Mary Reed).

Remember that Jane could also be down as Janet, Jean or Jessie in the records.

Hi Gadget

Unfortunately I have found nothing about Penelope apart from her daughter was called Isabella Bell whose parents on her death cert are Robert Bell Farmer and Penelope Irving. This seems a bit strange as on Penelopes death cert she is listed as single and again on the 1841 1851 census. However Penelope is living with a 15 year old William Lowther in 1841 who may be a nephew or some kind of relation as Her daughter (Isabella) had a son William middle name Lowther. Again I have been unable to find Isabellas birth record who was born Kirkpatrick-Flemming 1828ish.

Confusing eh?

Kev

On the 1851 Scotland, there are the following Irvings born Hoddam, 1800 +/- 10 years:

Agnes, bc. 1791 - husband George
Your Penelope
Mary, b.c. 1809
Mary, b.c. 1811
William, b.c. 1811

It might be worth having a look at them and seeing if any of them could be related. Then follow them up for death certs.

Just to confuse myself further I think it could be Byers. I noticed this entry on the same page. Bronchitis.

Could one of these possibly be her:

4 Jan 1764, Janet Byers, d/o James,  Hoddom

10 October 17776, Jannet Byers, d/o James, Kirkpatrick Fleming
