Hi all from Belfast, NI,
I am tracing my g-grandfather Robert McCord, b c1855-58 in Northern Ireland, who never emmigrated but I believe sailed as a rigger on the SS British King which may visited NZ.
Family stories say he rounded Cape Horn which may confirm he was in those parts.
Any confirmation source would be very welcome as I am not sure he was permanently attached to this vessel - the only record I have was when he was in dock in Birkenhead, UK 1881.
Many thanks for your attention,
Gary

Hi Gary
I googled "SS British King" and got half a dozen hits, including this one..

according to this it was chartered to the NZ Shipping Co. & Shaw Saville for 4 round trips.
Hope this helps.
