Hi there,
I was wondering if anybody might be able to help me. I'm tracing my maternal grandfather's family and I've come to a dead-end.
My grandfather was John McDonnell (b.1931-d.1994).
His parents were Patrick McDonnell and Ellen Brett. I know that this was Ellen's second marriage, as her first husband died young, of a heart attack. I don't know if Brett was her maiden name or the name taken from her first marriage. She had two children from her previous marriage.
My grandfather's siblings were:
Michael McDonnell (a year or two older than my grandfather) - married a lady named Phillis who I believe still lives in Tipperary.
"Gerry" McDonnell (Gerald). All I know is that he named his children after the children of Our Lady of Fatima, Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia.
Alice McDonnell
Patrick McDonnell (a.k.a Austin) - currently living in South London, not exactly sure where.
Noreen McDonnell - married a man named John/Jack Croke and moved to America. She was a qualified barrister. She died last year. I believe her children are Antonette and John.
Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
My grandfather moved to Mallow and married my grandmother Mary Lowe. They had three children, Michael, Concepta and Nora.

I'm descended from Brett's also in the Bansha / Kilmoyler parishes in Tipperary. G-G-G Gradnfather married a Margaret Brett around 1853 in Tipperary. Her parents were Malachy Brett and Ellen (unkown). He was a farmer, and thats all the info I have on these two. If you have any more info of the Brett's from Tippereary it would be great hear from you.

My grandfather is Malachy Brett living in Tullamaine with years now (hes 85) they moved from Bansha when my dad Liam was only young - Im sure he may be able to help with any questions if you would like me to ask him?

I'm not sure if how successful you have been in your search since your original post, but I think I can help. My Grandmother is Alice McDonnell (now Lyons), who has lived in Merseyside since leaving Fethard, although she has always kept in touch.
I have a lot more information on the family and would be more than willing to help in any way that I can, but as this thread is so old, can you let me know what gaps needs filling etc. and I will see what I can do.
